I`ve recently decided to cut my hair short. I`ve never had short hair before and i`m nervous about how its going to go. I know i`m going to cut roughly 3-4 inches off which would leave my hair a little below my chin. I was wondering if anybody has any ideas of what I can do with my hair after i have it cut that short?

ps: if anybody wants to attempt to talk me out of it they can!!!!!

Gosh it`s a huge decision isn`t it?! I am here for ya gal....I`ve gone from long to short and then back to long again soooooo many times it`s not even funny. I love long hair and I love short hair also, so it`s not so hard on me. I`ll tell you this...with 3-4 inches you are going to be in for a bit of a shock maybe. Maybe. You sound iffy, so I would suggest going slower. Go with only an inch at first, and then see how you like it, then if it feels good, go with a bit more.
As far as your question of what you can do with it after it is cut short, well, that really depends on the cut and style. Layers? All one length? Bobbed? The possibilities are endless. I had mine in an all around, one length bob. Not much variety there. I have mine in layers now, and I can do different things with it. Is yours straight, curly? You will have to experiment.
As far as my trying to talk you out of it.......NO WAY......I`m staying neutral here. I am letting mine grow right now, but in a few months, if I get the itch, I`ll cut it. It`s hair, it grows and I love to change. I love short hair and it can make you feel really liberated when you go from long to short. But it can also make you feel deathly ill at your stomach if you don`t like it.
I`ll be here for you gal, whatever you choose to do. You have my support.........ronty93@yahoo.com email if you like..........Good luck......:)Meg

I really can`t go slower... its all or nothing!! I was going to start out with all one length till it grew out a bit, because i want it short to start off for school, but by march-april 2002, there is a big dance and i want to be able to put it up. My hair is naturally wavy but i can straighten it easily. Its okay that u dont wannatry and talk me outta it, i maily put it there for the guys who love long hair and wanna gimme some ideas on why i should change my mind.

I`m keeping it a secret from my parents, so they have no clue whats going to happen. :-\ go fig!

If you`re not sure you want to do this, then why are you? You should only cut your hair if you`re very sure that`s what you want to do. No one can make up your mind for you.

Well, if you do, you`ll probably regret it. And if you don`t you`ll probably regret you didn`t do it. Why do you want to be talked out of it? It sounds to me like you really don`t want to do it.

I didn`t say I wanted to be talked out of it, but i`m open to people giving me reasons why i shouldn`t do it.

Ithink you should cut your hair extremely short. Short hair is so beautiful and its not all that scarry.
Hair grows back and you will love all the different styles as it grows out. If I were there Id give you a cut for free. dont be scarred its only hair and you will look great

Hi McKee,

If the recipient of a short haircut is not pleased with the result, it can be an emotionally-scarry experience. (Apologies to Dave for playing with his words).

Gosh! Dave is willing to both administer and pay for haircuts! It could become a new business model for the salon industry -- can you imagine? "So Dave, how much did you earn last week?" "Oh, after taxes, I lost $300." LOL

Anyway, here`s an idea -- you say you`ve never changed your hair before... and your dance is just about a year away. Would growing your hair longer constitute a change? It would certainly give you lots of options on how to wear your hair for the dance. And then after the dance, if you are still set on a haircut, you can call Dave -- collect -- and make AND save a buck or two. (Apologies to MCI and Eva Savealot).

Hello, I have changed hair length some times in my life from longer then shoulder length to very short and long again (the longest hair was between 40 - 50 cm), I think this is the genetic determined maximum length. I never liked the short hair, so it always growed back. The only reasons I cut it short were social ones (military, jobs, family), I regret it that I was not powerful enough to defend my hair and that I had so few knowledge about hair care. I think I am very persistent in long hair liking and currently I have the confidence that I will not give in hair cut thoughts again. It is dífficult to give objective reasons for long hair liking, I can only say something about my feelings. Hair is something that is softy and can be damaged very easy without beeing able to repair itself (only through growing). So long hair always is to handled very carefully, otherwise it doesn`t look better than a bundle of straw. I think it is already a good thing to be sensitive and carefully to something about me, this is no stress factor, I enjoy the daily hair care routine. But the most thing I love around the hair topic are women with long hair. It gives me something like spiritual light, I can not explain it better. Even if I am completely down the hair can change my feelings completely. So I think it must have an inner worth, even if this is only a subjective one. And this are the reasons it makes me sad if women cut it off.
