After reading the previous post I tried to do a little more research on Crystal's hair growing.  It's hard to find dated photos, but I did link to one in the previous post from 1975 that indicated she had waist length hair when she first hit the country music scene.

Well, I re-found some photos on the web from Crystal in the late 1970s.  This first photo was from 1978.  Her hair was maybe a little longer than the one in 1975.  It's lower butt length.

This second photo was taken at the same music festival one year later in July of 1979.  Although this photo doesn't show the back of her hair as well, it's pretty clear that her hair was longer, probably about lower thigh length.

The new truly new find was this youtube video from something called the Crystal Gayle show?  I can't find any other mention of it so I assume it had a very short shelf life.  In contrast, her hair was longer.  It's about a 3 minute video and for the most part it is head shots of Diane Warwick and Crystal Gayle  The song is surprisingly good.  But around the 2:00 to 3:00 minute mark there are some more distant camera shots that show Crystal has hair that is approaching her knees but probably not quite that long.  Since she is wearing a dress it's a little hard.  Her hair seems very healthy and pretty.

This final shot is a repeat from my earlier post but shows Crystal's hair at it's longest.  I'm guessing this is a couple of years later, but not much more than that.

If anyone has any other photos/videos from this time period (late 70s early 80s) I'd be interested to see the link.

Big%20smile Thank you, Ben, for this retrospective. *Never* did I imagine that Crystal would have hair to her calves three decades later! Usually by *her* age (55), a short, maybe permed, coif has foisted itself upon a once beautifully-graced head.  Ah, the millions of smiles she has brought to men's faces over the years! Crystal Gayle is an American icon and treasure. Thank you Crystal!!! God bless, Bob
Edited to add--I do not believe in "Bod". (lol) Also, Crystal is featured in the latest Country magazine with her 3 yr. old grandchild. The length of her hair is not shown, but Crystal still looks smashing in two photos! Bob

Dang,I'm so jealous of those locks,LOL.

I did read once that she got bad headaches from how heavy her hair was.
Stunning though...So,do you know any of her secrets? Cuz I'am all ears..

Big%20smile Hi Jules. Crystal's first "secret" is genetics. She is part Am. Indian, and her hair grows one foot per year. Second, she has stated that *she* herself is the only person who ever combs her hair. (My guess is that she meant exactly *combs*, as I know from experience that many types of brushes damage hair.)
Her problem, as I read it in the past, has come from neck soreness. Wet hair *can* be heavy, though even at her length, dry hair is light, probably under one pound.  I do not know if her hair's weight *caused* her neck problems, but the heft of the locks could plausibly exacerbate them.
Interestingly, about 25 years ago, at the height of her Grammy success, she was asked by Parade magazine if she planned to cut her hair. "Definitely", was her response. In fact, in her mind, the snipping was imminent. She stated elsewhere that she planned to divide her cut hair into pieces and sell them at a PBS auction. (YEECCCH!) Plus, her husband had never particularly liked her tresses (?!), so a short style seemed inevitable. But..., it never happened.
I remember reading an article about her a few years later in which she confessed shock over the fact that so many of her male fans were so enamored of her silky length. So, whether it was her fans or her managers, *someone* convinced her that a chop would be career-damaging. She was rewarded, when in her late 30's, one magazine's survey found that Crystal's hair won a "sexiest female asset" vote in a landslide.
A couple years ago, Crystal had again planned to shock the world with a radical haircut. This time, her son and daughter talked her out of it, arguing that she wouldn't be Crystal Gayle anymore! Smart children she raised! LOL Anyway, Jules, this is probably more than you or anyone ever wanted to know, but hopefully you enjoyed these tidbits. Blessings, Bob

Thanks for the info,Bob. Well, all I can say is she sure is lucky!  My husband would love for me to have hair like that! For one reason or another I always seem to have to cut it. I just started over in growing it out naturally, but even after 10 years I dont think my hair will ever be THAT long! Thumbs%20Up
