I am letting my hair grow out long. Last time I went in for a trim they asked me if I wanted my hair cut in different layers. Can someone explain the differerence between layers or all the same length? Do most people who wear there hair long get it cut in layers? I always thought people who cut there hair cut short got it cut in layers. Thank you for your information

Hi Laura,

Hair that is described as being "all one length" doesn`t mean that each hair is the same length, but that the ends of the hair mass are cut or trimmed to a given point on the body ("waist-length," for example). I think most people with long hair, especially those who are growing their hair longer, go for "one-length" hair as opposed to having layers, so much that growing out short layers almost always involves a gradual transforming of those layers into one-length hair.

I hope that was clear!

Hi Laura,

Yes, the term one length in regards to longer hair generally is used to represent where all the hair is cut blunt to the one relative position on your body, ie shoulder length, waist length. It is my belief that longer hair always looks much better cut this way then with a layered effect. I am very happy to hear you are letting your hair grow out, there can never be too many long haired women in the world.

Best Wishes,

John

A lot of people who have long hair get very subtle layers cut just around the face. This frames the face and is very flattering. The shorter layers can be feathered back for a very nice look.
