Hi everyone! Hope you can help me with this... :) I would like to apply extensions using the microlink method. I purchased some blonde remy hair extensions sometime ago, but they ended up having the wrong tips. The lady i bought them from said they were straight I tip extensions, but they are too big to fit into the rings. I took them to a hair dresser and they said it was suited for shrinkie or fusion application. Is it easy to cut off the tips and re-bond them with some adhesive so I can attach them with microlinks?? I'm not sure what product I would need for this. I searched around on some sites but the only pre-bonding kits i could find were for fusion. Thanks. |

Are they the nail "u" or "v" tip?
You CAN take and very lightly melt/warm the glue tip with a fusion wand or iron- let it cool just SLIGHTLY- then re-roll the glue into the shape and thickness that you need. If you want smaller tips, you migth have to cut the "nail tip" in half (or to the appropriate size) to get the proper thickness/thinnes for your microlinks. This can be a little tricky the first few times you try it- but you should get the knack of it after a few strands. Also- it may cause some shedding- but once you have shaped the tip into the size and shape you desire, you can dab a little nail glue on the ends of the tips to keep them from shedding too much.
Does this make sense to you?
And yes- you CAN cut off the tips and also re-bond them- but I would not call that an EASY process. It can be done without being TOO difficult, but just so you know it is very time consuming and it takes a bit of practice. For you it might be better to re-roll the tips. But there are glue chips and melting pots to use for this--- or you CAN use Liquid gold to do pre-tips- though it is messy.
I am sure some of the other ladies here may have some more suggestions for you regarding the RE pre-tipping.

hi lil bohemian.. they aren't 'u' tipped, its more like a straight tip. here's some pics to give u an idea.. http://www.hairhumanhair.com/stick_hair_extension.htm - http://www.hairhumanhair.com/stick_hair_extension.htm my extensions are similar to the blonde 'I tip' photo.. but the tip i want is more like the 'stick' tip next to it that kinda looks like the end of a shoelace. do these have the same adhesive as the stick looks quite different to the others which look more suited to heating methods? i'm not sure what liquid gold is as i'm pretty new to this stuff! but the re-rolling doesn't sound too hard.. might give that a try, cheers! |

You could heat a heat clamp, (or buy a really cheap flat iron) and (carefully) cut the I tip vertically ( about half way down) and heat up the remaining tip and roll it. Or just heat up the iron and pull as much adhesive off with the IRON as you can and then roll it. (this is better if you can) This is what I do and it works. ------------- ^..^ |
