Hello everyone,

I am the very lucky guest of someone who has won complete makeovers for her and nine friends (Thanks Oprah!)  And I am facing a hard choice.  I have had the same hairstyle...straight, long, and with bangs for the last twenty or so years, sigh.  I think it's time for a change.  My Hubby says GO FOR IT (meaning short and blond ...ugh) and my daughters say...NO WAY Mom...we love your long hair.  I do realize that time heals all BAD IDEAS and am considering a shorter cut...with lots of layers.  I think I will stay a redhead though (sorry Hubby).  If there are any experts here who would like to see a recent picture of me, and suggest styles that would fit my face and lifestyle, I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance!

Here are some 'recent' pictures of me.  I turn 48 in a few weeks and lead a very busy but somewhat quiet lifestyle...meaning I'm stuck way out in the country and don't get a chance to get to the big city often...lol.  I want a hairstyle that will be easy to manage and don't mind having to keep up with salon visits for color touchups.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have for me.

I think you already have that hairstyle..
If you really want to change your look don't do it on a show like that. Unless it's something you want to do. Don't do it for other people.

There's nothing wrong with going and getting a makeover. But it should be on your terms and not because someone else wants to change you.

I'm sure someone is going to look at my signature picture and assume that I am against short hair. No I am not. There are a lot of styles you could try that are in between what you have now and something really short. What you need to decide for yourself is how short are you willing to go for a first makeover? You can always go shorter a lot easier than going short first and trying to grow back.

I think you look fine as is but if you wanted a change that included a cut and I were doing your makeover I would start with with something that stayed below your shoulders and kept your bangs as is. Maybe try a few long layers just in the front. But the shortest one would be shoulders or below. Then once you've tried that style you would still have lots of options to go shorter.

The way I look at it, if you are going to go short anyway then what's the harm in trying a few other styles first before you go all the way? It's a lot easier that way than trying to grow the short hair out and try the styles.

Does that help?

Yes, that does help a lot!  I was considering long layers, and maybe shoulder length hair...but perhaps I'll keep it a little longer.  The bangs have to stay!!!  I think I will keep the color in the red range as I have had red hair all my life, (except for these *&!# grays that keep popping up...grrr) and I think it suits me well.  I like the longer hair because it gives me some options, that I couldn't do with super short hair.

As for the makerover...this was won through a show, but won't be televised...just a nice spa day for the girls *S*.  Sheesh I've never spent 7 hours getting pampered...I can't wait.

Thanks for your suggestions,

i would say get layers shoulder length and keeping the bangs the layers will really give some lifting to your hair. Something like this pic only difference will be you will have bangs.
Kind of like Robin Mcgraw which is Dr Phils wife watch  that show and look at her cut with the bangs.

I think that rather than cut your hair, use your makeover time & $$$ to learn how to style it in other ways.  You have beautiful hair.
