I'm looking for advice on trying to solve a hair straightening process.

I have medium length brown curly hair.  I am Caucasion.  I am also part Japanese.  I color my hair once every 4 months with a professional with a nonchemical natural cover up.

About 2 months ago I went in to an experience Q8 (hair straightening brand) stylist.
We discussed and then decided to do the process.  This process took roughly 5 hours.  I cannot remember all the details being 2 months ago.  But what happened on the 4th day after the straightening is memorable.

On the 4th day I washed my hair and deep conditioned my hair as instructed.  I had gone through great pains to be sure I did not get my hair wet until the day I washed it.

My hair looked like it had been braided wet and when it dried the crimps were left.  I was upset.  After drying it out and using a flat iron my hair was straighter (not as straight as in the salon though).

I called the stylist who said the neutralizer must have been bad.  She had me come in, she put reconstructive mask on my hair, did a test patch on another hair straightening product (some breakage) and sent me home with reconstructive and detangler.  She said let's see how it does.

My hair is more work now than before.  Pools, beaches, rain, etc.  is a nightmare because as soon as my hair gets wet it crimps and my hair looks like the barbie doll's hair after 20 years.

Can anyone help figure out what they think may have occurred or what I might do to get my hair corrected?  I currently use a reconstruct solution, a moisture spray and a detangler.  I then have to blow out my hair and then flat iron it.  This takes process takes about 1-1 1/2 hours.

Thank you.

maybe it was the natural hair color, many natural hair colors have mineral salts and metalic salts that do not mix with relaxers, although your hair sounds like mine when it is overprocessed, or the neutralizer may have been old.

Your hair was damaged. It sounds like it was overprocessed. Nothing you can do to fix it. Once hair is damaged you can not un-do it. You can however, make it better. Do protein treatments once a week for the first 4 weeks and once a month after that. Use either Redken Deep fuel, Joico Deep Penetrating Hair reconstructor, or Nexxus Emergencee. They are all wonderful protein treatments. Put them on, cover hair with a shower cap, and go under a heat cap or a head dryer. If you don't have either, then use your blow dryer to apply the heat (for 15-20 minutes). After that, your hair is going to feel really rough. That is normal when using protein. You have to deep condition afterwards. Use either Redken all soft heavy cream or Redken smooth down butter treat. Again apply with a shower cap and heat for 10-15 minutes. After that your hair will feel soft. Use a good leave in conditioner before drying. Sebastian Potion 9 or Salerm 21 are exellent. It also helps to slightly spray the hair with Redken Addictive hair transformer, and leave it in, don't rinse it out.

You need to do this ASAP as pretty soon your hair will start to break and fall off. I had my hair damaged by TR as well. I feel your pain. But follow the instructions above and start to slowly cut off the damaged hair. It is a long process, but you have to do it. Hope this helps

Good luck and beautiful hair

Much love, Shary
