Hey all - I am a sporadic visitor of late but just wondered if anyone, professional or DIYer, is playing around with eyelash extensions? I mean the type that need special glue, not the drugstore glue short-wear ones. Seemed they were getting lots of buzz, but then the buzz faded.

I have looked into learning the procedure. One of the girls in my salon got them done and they looked fabulous!

| The woman that tattoo's my eyeliner does the lash extension also. They are quite high maintenance from my understanding - more of a special occassion, i.e. wedding, special party deal...unless you're okay with the expense & monthly upkeep... Not me! Bring on the mascara & peel off lashes! |

gotcha - thanks ladies. i guess, although i've read that you can, never really slept in the peel off lashes and the idea of just waking up looking fab is attractive. i have heard you have to go back periodically b/c you lose a certain number of your lashes normally a month. sounds like not many women are DIYing it. I looked around a bit and the kits on ebay are pretty expensive and set up for people who want to do it commercially. the glues look pretty scary too

I think that would be scary to DIY, but I would love to do it. I would love to look fab without mascara or trying. I like to try to pull off the "I just naturally look like this" thing...
I can never get fake lashes to look good but not over the top, and I can't ever sleep in them. I always think of waking up next to a hot guy with fake lashes glued on my cheek or chin or something.  That's not a way to get a man!

I do eyelash extensions and I think they are fab but you do have to have them topped up as they fall out at the same rate as your own lashes do.
I can't think of a way to do a diy application as you need to be able to see each individual eyelash so that you can apply the extension.
If I can work out how to add pics on here I'll add one to show you my work

I have had eyelash extensions and they are beautiful, but I sure don't see how anyone can do this themselves! Tiny eyelashes are attached via glue to individual lashes. Usually the person doing the application is working with both hands with very sharp tweezer-like applicators in each hand. I had an allergic reaction to the glue, and my eyes swelled horribly. I had to remove them. The upkeep is pretty extensive. I had a friend who had them on for months. She would go for add-ins about every two weeks. |

naked eye - girl i hear you about the migrating lashes i can see waking up and thinking it was a spider and screaming, could be quite traumatic.

I do think that they are a lot of work but they are so worth it when they are done they look so much better than the other stick on lashes, without the scary spiders! lol

I woke up after Halloween last year and had a sparkly blue on stuck on my face. I wouldn't recommend it! In my hungover disoriented state it took me way too long to figure out what it was... |

hehe - yes i can see how a sparkly blue spider on your face would scare you lol
so badgalmel - you basically glue, lash by lash, the extension lash to the natural lash? i think - of course i have the mind of a DIYer, why you couldn't do it DIY. i am sure i'm missing something. i guess the way i'm thinking of it is that you look in a mirror and close the eye you are working on. do you take a course to get trained? too bad you are in the UK - i have seen some locals offering it but they seem a little suspect in that they charge an arm and a leg for hair extensions and do the whole leave 'em in for six months spiel...

I know a couple of people who have DIY lashes but they also do them on clients so they get lots of practise. I do know that the http://www.lavishlashes.com - www.lavishlashes.com glue is fume free--some of the other glues are soooooooo fumey, it stings just having it near an open eye so wouldn't be good for DIY.
I 've worn 3 sets but didn't get fills--just let them shed and trimmed them down at 5 weeks. Beautiful but I didn't like the high maint of them.

What does it generally cost for a new set and then the necessary upkeep appts to follow??
Just trying to do the math to see if they're less expensive than my throw away lashes in the long run. I wear them a lot ------------- It's Official... I'm Addicted To Hair Extensions! |

If you have quite sparse lashes you could probably do it yourself as there would be enough space for you to get between each lash but I wouldn't recommend it as after a while the lashes would start to stick together and it wouldn't look good. It’s not like wearing other types of false lashes that you can do yourself relatively easily. I've tried a few times to do it myself.... and lets say it looked like I had a swam of spiders crawling over my face lol. It sounds as though lucky chick knows people that have the DIY lash thing down really well but I've never been able to master it. Lash extensions are quite fiddly to learn on your own so it is best to go and get trained especially as you are working closely with people’s eyes. You can get odourless glue in many of the popular brands but it tends not to be as strong so I sometimes mix the two for those people with sensitive eyes. I'm not sure what works out more cost effective because it depends on how the lashes are priced. I do know that some people charge up to £165 for a full set and some people charge £1 per lash or they charge by how much time they spend. |

| I did a little research on this, and from what I've found, there are a couple places in my area (Los Angeles) that do a really great job for about $150 for the first install. That includes 2 more installs (touchups). After that, it would be $50 per install after. I'd like to get them, but it's such high maintenance. Maybe just for a special ocassion. |

Doctored Locks is going to put up a tutorial soon. They sell the glue which dries super fast. No single lashes though but you can find those elsewhere.
