I have very short, stick-straight, baby-fine hair with blond highlights. I am 44, tall (5`9"), average build. Also real active. I am getting a haircut tomorrow and I need style advise. I have been trying to grow out a short crop for several months and I am miserable!! The crop was very bad (lots of maintenance for yucky results). Does anyone know of a hairstyle that will work for me? I am ready to shave my head!! I need low maintenance and something that can be styled close to the head.

Thanks!!

Hey,
I read your messeage. Maybe clipping your hair short all over is what you should do. You could tell the stylist to use a #2 blade on the clippers and clip the hair off all over the head. This is called a GI haircut but I think that it looks great on women. It may sound drastic but I think you should seriously think about it. Call if you have questions. 704-982-4043

I would just get the back cut very short and try to grow out any remaining layers. An all one legnth hairstyle is very low maintenence and can be pulled back or put up easily when it gets long enough.

I used to have a very short haircut. close to a GI, but longer on top. I kept the back short and grew out the layers - each time I got a trim, i had the layers leveled up with the bottom layer. once they got to the same length I just let my hair go. I had a stupid moment and cut bangs into my hair. That was 2.5 years ago, and I am still growing them out.

it can be done, but it takes patience

Thanks very much for all the advice. I am intrigued by the GI haircut. I saw a girl with one on a cruise I went on last year and she looked fabulous. I am just not sure I could get it to stand up all over and that was what made her look so good. Do you think with hair as fine as mine that it could work? I have a very square jaw too so a lot of cuts are not very flattering for me.

Thanks again.

Hey,
I think the clippered short all over (GI) haircut is definitely what you should do. I don`t think a # 2 blade is too short. You could also use some styling gel and rub into the hair after the haircut to get the spikey effect. This haircut is a must for you in my opinion. REply back and let me know your thoughts.

as far as getting it to stand up,, my son uses Joico Ice Molder and it holds great.

he has very stubborn hair that insists on doing its own thing and that stuff holds spikes.

I`ll have to talk to my hairdresser. I am not sure what he`ll think of a GI cut. Should be interesting. CJ, I am getting the impression that you really like short hair on women.

Well, no GI cut but it is short. Long on top and short in back. I like the idea of a graduated bob with very short, high back. I need to grow the sides for a few months to achieve this look though. Might get bored--we`ll see. Thank you everyone for the advise.

Last week I had my hair clippered all over on a number two and I think it looks great. Let us know what you decided to do ! I don`t think a number two is too short.
