Well i'm going to the barber next week in a new town so i can no longer ask for the usual. My old barber used clippers on the side but i'm not sure what number. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the number mean or correspond to because I can't seem to find pictures online. Also any suggestions for what clipper size would be great.  I have short hair that spike in the front and I'd prefer if the sides were long enough so none of my scalp showed. But i just don't know what size that'd be. Thanks for any help.

The clipper blade/guide number describes the length of hair in eights of an inch.  For example, a No. 4 would be 4 x 1/8" or about half an inch.  Likewise, a No. 1 should leave leave the hair about 1/8 of an inch long.

I usually get a 1-1/2 (5/32) on the sides which shows some scalp and a #5 on top.  My wife HATES it, b/c it shows my scalp on the sides and i  used to get a #2 which is 1/4 and shows almost no scalp.  I go fishing 1 time a year and i get the #4 on top and 1-1/2 on sides so that it is cool out on the Gulf of Mexico!

Extremely easy to care for b/c you just towel off and throw some gel in it and go.

Hope it helps.
