Hi there!
I have a problem, my hair has a green tinge.
The ends are pretty damaged, and I home colored it with a light ash brown. Now, in certain lights, there is a slight green tinge. The ends are darker than the roots, and the rest, too.
It's time to recolor, and I want to fix this somehow. Should I use a neutral light brown to counteract the green, or highlight then tone over it? It's only in spots, and not super bad, but I notice it sometimes, and no one wants even slightly greenish hair! lol

My hair use to do that too! I have light blonde hair. It's a mineral in your water. To get rid of it you can do a few things. 1. Mix lemon juice and baking soda. Cover your head with a shower cap and sit under heat, like hair dryer. This will pull out the green. or 2. Use Vit C crystals and baking soda. Cover head with a shower cap and sit under the heat again. Shampoo Out I would also invest in some blonde shampoo and use periodically. Or put a filter on your water Good Luck! |

It coud be the water as Purplefly said, but it could also be overprocesing, or the fact that you used an ash color, since ash colors have a green base. If it is the water then the recipe given above should take care of it. If it is the base color then using a neutral color should solve the problem. I guess try the recipe above and see if it works. |

I think you should use something called colorfix by Clairol which you can get at a beauty supply store or maybe order it online. It is not a typical haircolor remover,it is oil based. It will get rid of the haircolor,or at least remove the green tint,and prepare you for a fresh color. Then you can use a neutral brown if you choose too. If you dont remove the current haircolor first,a neutral brown will NOT get rid of the green tint. You will have to use a WARM brown which has some red in it to counteract the green. Good luck to you,but try not to worry about it too much,most people probably do not even notice it. |

I really don't think it is the water, as I mentioned above, I do have a shower filter (a really great shower filter). I've done some tests to see how hard it is, and if I still have a chlorine problem, and all of that seems clear.
I think it is overprocessing on the ends (from the botched bleach job over a year ago...), and using an ash color with a somewhat green base. I am going to try a warm based semi-permanant blond on just the ends first, and then use a porosity control before I recolor the rest of my hair, and if that doesn't work I am going to get some Colorfix. I've heard great things about it!

been there done that....
for years i bleached (frosting kits) my hair to platinum then when i decided to get it darker, i went to the salon, and the idiot there made my hair mucky gray with a green tinge! anyway....that was years ago (i havent gone near a salon since, no one touches my hair but me)....but to fix: to remove the green: clarifying shampoo (Prell is good for this) shampoo several (i mean many) times OR the colorfix that jules mentioned (it is the quicker instant way to remove, i'd do that) then, the next time you color....definately a porosity control on your hair before you color.....im not sure what color you want to go for next time, but just this year i finally have taken my hair from platinum to a warm honey blonde with highlights and lowlights if you want to go to a more golden shade, i add a few drops of red protein filler to my semipermanent color to make sure that nothing grabs to make the previously platinum ends turn out gray or green, and it has worked great good luck! |

I had the same problem one time, I have brown hair, highlighted it blonde, and put an ash toner over it so it was like dark blonde, and not even a week later it turned green!!! I was so freaked out, so I went to Sallys and bought this stuff that was for swimmers it is called, Ion, purifying solutions anti chlorine swimmers dual action conditioner, and theres shampoo too. I dont know if this helps you but, all the green came out and it went back to normal. I hope this helps, good luck!!
