Hey Folks, I have long, fine, slightly layered, straight hair. Last week I tried scrunching it for the first time in over ten years and I really liked it (except I REALLY had to work at it to get any kind of wave). I would love to have the option of having some wave or drying it straight. For the past few days I have been toying with the idea of a body wave, but am terrified to do it in my small little city! I did, however, see an ad yesterday for a salon in my area that has a "texture specialist." Forgive me for being uninformed, but what exactly is a "texture specialist??"  ------------- gwatt |

That is a new one for me. I haven't heard of a texture specialist but it does sound like someone who works with chemicals to alter the behavior of hair. I'll ask around here and see if anyone has heard of that.
I would be very wary of any kind of perming with fine hair. I have done it many times and only had one semi-good result. Generally perms are very hard on fine hair and even if you should happen to get one that doesn't cause your hair to break off and frizz, the growth at the top of your head is very noticable because it is flat/straight, whereas the rest of your hair is permed and more poufy. I am ever hopeful that a new formula will be developed (which is why I still occasionally have a perm) but so far that hasn't happened and I always regret it. ------------- "It is better to look marvelous than to feel marvelous" Billy Crystal |

Since posting that inquiry I have regained my wits! I actually got loads of layers put in just the other day and now I can do absolutely anything with my hair! I am completely in love with it. No perms here! (I actually have had a couple in the past...think late '80s!), but I'll stick to what my mother gave me! Thanks for the advice, demodoll! And if you do find out what a texture specialist is, please do advise! I'm still curious!

Intresting,because I have heard that people with fine hair,if they color it,that it will add more texure. And I think this is true at least for me. If my hair is super healthy and natural,it tends to be a little flatter,because it is very smooth. If I dye it,that makes it feel courser and gives a bit of texture and it is not so flat! |
