I just bought some human hair, and, while the quality seems nice, I just washed it a little on top and then conditioned the ends, and its still wet but it smells a little moldy.
Yes, like the stuff that grows on wet socks, er, makes them smell moldy...
I did notice a slight smell when I got the hair but thought it would wash out, maybe it's not mold? Maybe its a chemical smell (that just happens to smell like mold) But the hair, was very very nice when I got it, it looked great before I washed it (its still drying), so IDK?
Any thoughts?

LOL Poose....thats what I call the 'BIG WET DOG" smell. Its a 'musty' sort of smell and reminds me very much what a wet dog smells like.

Ive smelled this on many brands of human hair and goes away with a wash or two. It must be some chemical or residual smell left over from processing/santizing it goes through.

Maybe the recommendation for the bleach bath posted might help get rid of the smell.  Or fabreeze?

nah...the smell will usually go away after a good shampoo or two. I dont know what that smell actually comes from but Ive certainly smelled it on ALOT of hair. Some worse than others.

Sometimes, to me, the odor is similar to a petroleum product. It smells ok after it's dry, poose?

Yeah, it's okay now,  but I surely freaked out and put lotion, hair spray, perfume, etc. in it when it was wet! I'm glad it's a semi-normal thing! LOL
