I know it's much more curly than usual in this picture but I think she must have had at least a foot cut off:

It was almost BSL on the show

I think that it's much better shorter.  The longer hair weighed it down too much, especially the way she wears it on the show.  When she's out and about, she does style it much better but I do like this shorter look on her.

I have a tendency to agree.
That wasn't a great long hairstyle on her, and it made her look sort of girly.
With her shorter hairstyle, she looks more like a grown woman, not a teenaged girl. It looks lovely on her.

With long hair she looks like a high school girl. With shorter hair she looks like a grown woman in her late 20s or early 30s.
Being in my mid-30s myself, I believe women in their 20s and 30s often can look more beautiful than 16, 17, or 18 year old teenaged girls. Teenaged girls can be beautiful, but usually teenaged girls look more cute than beautiful in the grown up sense of the word. A beautiful woman really comes into her own when she is in her 20s, and then into middle age.
I am 36 year old lady these days, and I feel as beautiful as I ever have. I am enjoying being the age that I am.

It looks nice but I don't think it's cut. It sort of echos the updo style of the 20s and 30s when many women faked the bob but weren't quite ready do get it done like the more daring ones.

Probably just alot of hairspray and kirby grips. The people who work on the show are a bit rigid on cast members cutting their hair from what I've heard as well.

I believe that is an updo, not a cut, no way is her hair that thick without help.  Although just about any change would make her hair look better.  In a way, the longish, thin, pulled back in a pony tail hair she usually wears is probably the most realistic of the female doctors on her show, although not the best looking (which goes to the stunning Katherine Heigl)
