You must live out in the sticks somewhere if you get those sorts of comments.
Half the women in America wear short hairstyles. Every city I have been to, I see women with short 'dos. And they look good.
Here in New York City, every other woman has short hair;..... bob styles, short pixies, other short styles, even the occasional shaved head on a lady.

It is better to be true to yourself and not worry too much about what other people think, especially parents and grandparents.  You won't be happy unless your hair is styled in a way that makes you feel like it looks good.  That is the single most important thing about carrying off any hairstyle.  The next time anyone says something derogatory about your hair ask them why they are being so unsupportive.  Short, healthy hair is much more beautiful and creative than grown out, split, dry hair.

I have never had long hair in my life.  It just doesn't work for me.  But there are a lot of people, including my husband and son, who really don't like my hair and complain.  I just couldn't care less.  I am happy with it super short and that is what counts.

Thanks demodoll for the kind words. I recently just got my hair cut again shorter and my mom said,"WHY did you do that???"  I told her It needed it and i didnt want to hear any more comments about it.

I don't get a lot of derogatory comments directed at me personally, but a lot of the people I know are very pro-LH.  I figure it's mostly just that I live in the conservative South, and I try not to let it bother me.  *shrugs*
