Hi guys,

I got my  fusion extensions taken out a few days ago due to tangles and extreme shedding.  Thank goodness no damage to hair and even showed growth after a couple of months to my delight.  Now for my inquiry I was thinking of doing the pro tac that you guys all seem to do and like.  I was wondering is it itchy and does it feel the same way a weave feels and how long can they be worn for? Is shedding an issue because let me tell you I never want to go through that again.  How do you install the pro tac is it simple?  And how is it for cost?  Where do you purchase supplies besides on line? Can the material be found in a beauty supply store?  Sorry for all the questions guys but I cannot afford fusion anymore and I do enjoy the look of extensions.

Thats great to hear, no damage and GROWTH! Thats really good!

The protac method is really simple for a DIYer and I personally would never go back to an individual install again. The individual install is so time consuming and I cant get the volume I like with individuals. I prefer weft methods either protac or LG. I even prefer the way they feel to the individual installs. I tend to fiddle too much with the individual bonds. I have always experienced an 'itchy' phase with ANY method. But it usually doesnt last long.

Here is a demo on the protac :

The protac is cheap ($14 for a pack), your biggest expense of course is the hair. I have yet to hear of protac being available in a BSS. Best places to buy the supplies are online. And many of the online sellers will have your products to you pretty darn fast, within a few days.

The Protac was really itchy for me.  After week 3 as the glue starts to break down, I was getting constant itching.  I had to take them out.

In the past I have worn a sewn in weave for years without too much problem.

I think strands are much more comfortable than wefts.  They are lighter on your head and they don't itch nearly at much.

Guy's thanks for t he input.  I have tried a sewn in weave in the past and I was unable to put, it up because the weave showed.  I was wondering if you can wear your hair up with pro tac?? If the pro tac feels like the weave it might not be for me.  The feel of the weave was oaky but I would never do it again.

By the way Sherrie, I saw your install pictures and was very impressed with your work, good for you.  How long did it take you? I also wanted to add I think your natural hair looks great.  We have the same problems when it comes to growing out hair and layers constantly breaking.  Due to this I have toned down the colour and have decided to put barely any blond hi-lights if any at all.  I also am going to try to stay away from blow drying.  That will be quite the task but I am tired of my breaking and not growing.

i was tired of breaking my hair with bleaching too....

with extensions, i have been able to cover up most of that broken hair as i gradually added darker and darker semipermanent color to tone down to my natural color, now im keeping some lighter blonde highlights just in my bang area, and then i can add highlights throughout the rest of my head just by using extensions and not damaging my real hair

i use protac, and i start my bottom row at mid-ear level..this way the bottom row doesnt bother my neck and i can get a ponytail/clip/updo done easily

at first it was kind of itchy at times, on certain days it still can be, but for me its not from the tapes themselves but from tiny cross hairs i get accidently stuck in the tape during install

i had microrings for a month, and i think i hardly slept at all because i just could NOT get used to the feel of them when i lay my head on the pillow....switching to protac was like sleeping on a cloud compared to a month of microrings for me

sherrie's site has all the stuff you need for protac, and she'll get it out fast to ya...i definately think protac is a good choice for 1st time DIY
