I'd been planning on installing new hair next week for the holidays and turning my current install into clip-ins. Well, the other night while watching a movie (when will I learn to stop fiddling with my bonds?) I was futzing with my ear-to-ear double weft that had come a little loose, and before I knew it I had it half out. I figured, what the heck... it might be a good time to practice for a week with my lower bond as a clip-in. Sewing on the clips took no time at all (I'm lying, it took a little more time... I sewed them in upside-down the first time!) and before I knew it I had myself a clip-in!
After washing and blow-drying the hair on my head the next day, I attempted my first clip-in. At the Hair Club luncheon I'd asked Malibu who was sporting fabulous clip-ins just how long it took her to put them in each day. She responded, "about a minute." I figured it would probably take ME a half-hour. I was amazed yesterday to get that sucker in there on the first try, and it did take about a minute. That thing stayed put and was comfortable and looked exactly like it was supposed to! It was so great to be able to take it out last night! I flip my hair into a flippy curl, and found that by putting a few velcro rollers in the ends when I took it out it was ready for installing today when I needed it! Too cool! I can't wait now to have a full set (really just the one I made and a triple-weft horseshoe, temple to temple) for those times I've taken my old install out and am not going to put the new one in for a few days. Thanks to you all and especially to Malibu for the information and encouragement! I'm a cool clip-in girl now, too!  ------------- Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE! |

I love my clip ins. I have three rows, tripled. My hair was thinning in one spot after years of wearing them, so I moved the positioning a little. I feel your pain about sewing them upside down...I did the same thing...but I did it to 3 rows.....talkin' about pissed....and Iwas getting ready to go somewhere.... ------------- Thanks, JeepGirl Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great! |

Kristie!! I'm so excited to hear about your clip-ins. I've been wearing
two double wefts but sometimes I only wear one double weft. It can get
annoying at times. I think the trick is clipping them in about 1/8 of
an inch from the part. I really like being able to take them out at
night and doing deep conditioning treatments every week.

I made Amm's thermofibre into clip ins, 2 rows that are quadrupled. It looks more natural than any other method I've used because the clips seem to give a little lift and it makes my crown area look fuller. Also, they go in super fast and overall take far less time and upkeep than having a more permanent attachment method. I've heard a number of people mention the weird way the thermo separates, but I haven't noticed that wearing it as clip ins. Maybe it's due to less wear and tear on the thermo. |

I totally get it now, Malibu. I see how having a set, clean and ready to go makes getting ready so much quicker. I can blowdry my own baby-fine hair in about 3.2 seconds... clip clip, and a minute or two later I've got a perfect do! Hanging them up with curlers in them when I take them off at night takes about a minute as well. This causes the curl to be super bouncy, full, and long-lasting during the day. And being able to wash and deep condition at my convenience... just too cool! I think for day-to-day I prefer having them glued in, but I know there are lots of times I just don't want to have all that extra hair (and glue) on my head. Between having clip-ins and a big batch of phony ponies (something else I'm compulsive about buying, and there is a store near me that has a zillion of them super cheap!), I can make my own hair look "normal" in a few minutes, no problem. ------------- Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE! |

That's so great! I know what you mean...I prefer having a full "more permanent" install, but clip ins are great for some funky color or extra volume. I have a temple to temple clip in with my fusion right now actually.
JeepGirl - I feel your pain...when I was putting the clips on I kept holding them up as if I was installing & making sure I didn't get them backwards. I bet that would have made a good america's funniest home video moment...good thing nobody was around!
Kristie - is it a beauty supply chain that you've found great deals at for the ponys? I had one from sally's years ago that I loved but it got ratty pretty quickly. I just can't pull the trigger to buy one lately. They're either not long enough, too expensive, or not good quality hair.

Unfortunately, this is a little Asian mom-and-pop store rather than a chain, in Brea, California. I think it is called Daisy Hair Accessories. It is a tiny little shop in a mini-mall just crammed to the gills with inexpensive hairpieces and do-dads. I feel like a kid in a candy store in there! ------------- Here's to the end of my BAD HAIR LIFE! |

oooh, aren't clip ins just fabulous?!!!! I love mine. Been wearing clip ins for over a year now. I could never go back to sewn or glued or braided or... well, never say never I guess.
I can throw mine in quickly w/ out a mirror now. I wear 5 rows of hand tied wefts (folded half).
No more:
*wondering if you have breakage
*sleeping on lumps
*ext grow out
*lengthy ext intalls
*sweating while working out w/ big mound of hair to contend with
*etc!

hi kirstie i too am a fan of clip ins.
i had worn glue in and microlink methods but found them quite uncomfy and i always felt that i was going to need to give my hair a few months rest in between installs.
i have been wearing clip ins for around 3 years and have now grown my hair out from chin lengh to almost waist lenght at the back and chest length at the front. i have also had my hair bleached blonde and it has stioll grown. so i would say for me clip ins have not been damaging.
now i have coloured my hair darker again and i am wearing them as clip in blonde higlights i love how u can change your look so easily. and that u can take them out at night

| malibu had me all set to snip the clips off my old deader-than-dead clip in set....but i've kept procrastinating....i really think its an excellent idea for me to sew those clips onto a set of my current hair to use for a few days between installs to give my head a rest and do some deep conditioning treatments...i just need to actually do it!.....and kristie, i love your new avatar pic, you look phenomenal! |
