I recently went to the salon I also go to every six weeks to get my hair permed but I'm starting to get tired of going there because when I do my stylist always is so damaging to my hair. She blowdrys it so hard with a comb-blowdryer and flat-irons it at the highest heat possible. My hair is already long right now(almost mid-back...) and I can't risk losing it..what should i do? I can't perm my hair myself! Dead

if you really like the way she perms your hair, only see her when you need a retouch. Otherwise find a new stylist who understands being gentle with our fragile hair is essential

it makes me mad!

I only go to my stylists for relaxers.  I stopped going to her for washes months ago.  I found that it was a waste of money and time, and I wasn't getting the growth and maintenance results that I felt fro $30 a wash that I should have gotten.  I wash my hair myself and its healthier than ever.  I go every 7-8 weeks and get a relaxer, she always wanting to trim it, but when I go later this month or next month I'm going to be firm with her that I do not want a trim.

Stylists don't listen half the time, maybe cutting back on going to her will show her that she might be doing something you don't like.  I know my stylists thinks someone else is doing my hair, but no one is.  I know she wondering how my hair has gotten and remained so healthy now that I don't go to her for washes anymore and only relaxers.

Hi.

You may want to stretch your relaxers longer than six weeks.  This may be a healthier way to deal with her, or any stylists for that matter.  And when you go to her, mention that you have concerns with the heat of the blowdryer and flat iron.

Also, try relaxing every 8-10 weeks, instead of every 6 weeks.  Our hair needs to recover from such a harsh chemical process.  Perhaps if you stretch a little longer, you will be able to withstand her heavy-hand better.

Lastly, maybe some of the ladies on the hair boards can recommend a salon that is more gentle, in your area.

You have mid-back length hair, you must be doing something right.  Whatever it is, keep up the good work.

Good luck!

Thanks Ladyesq! My hair grows really fast(My friends always tell me that I have "Special hair" lol). I may strech out my permings but my hair gets unruly next to perming time!

I agree with the others, try strecthing your relaxers and maybe you can try protective hair styles the closer it gets to getting your relaxer. Maybe like a braid out, it's low manipulation and you won't have to put any heat to you hair.
