I've colored my hair a zillion times over the years...usually with great results. My natural color (best I can recall) is a dark ash blonde/light ash brown. Most recently, I've been a redhead...using L'oreal Color Experte's Ginger Twist. Loved it. Then for some stupid reason, I decided to get away from the red thing and tried to do brown. I used a L'oreal Feria that was medium ash brown. Still had reddish hair...only not vivid like the Ginger Twist. It was yucky. Then I got a Color Experte (2 step) in a medium ash brown and did that...with the included highlights. This made my hair a dark peach color. OMG. Not what I had in mind. So...fast forward to last night. I decided that a darker ash brown would come closer to covering the red tone. Why? I don't know. But I tried it and now I have black hair. It's just awful and I've cried for the better part of today. I want my Ginger Twist back.

How long before I can do something to it? And what?!?! My hair doesn't feel damaged at all...still shiny and soft. I'm scared to try anything without some advice, though, because I don't want green hair. Would colorfix before coloring with Ginger Twist do the trick?

Please help. I don't want to spend the rest of 2006 crying every time I see the mirror.

Oh Monica,

You can try a colour fix and see how much of the black comes out. After that you could use a bleach shampoo, all this is, is a little bleach powder mixed with shampoo, ( no peroxide) apply to wet hair and shampoo all the hair quickly with the bleach shampoo, only for a few minutes mind, this will also remove the black from your hair. Then try using your normal Ginger Twist, and keep your finger's crossed.

Hope this helps a little , good luck, Karen

Yes,Karen is totally right~colorfix will get the color out. In september I was just trying to add a little red to my hair, not much and got cinnaberry from Clairol natural instincts. Well, let me just tell you I looked like RONALD MCDONALD  it was so bright red and I had a wedding to go to the next day!
I used the colorfix as suggested on this site (which turned it kinda an orange color, but dont worry, that just means hair is ready for re-coloring)
It got the color out and I colored over it with a medium brown.
It too looked black~but I figured black was better then RONALD MCDONALD.
In about two weeks though,it had really lightened up alot to the point where it was a light brownish red that I really liked and what i was going for in the first place.
So,either use the colorfix  or,just wash it alot, and in about a week or two it should lighten anyways.
Good luck to you,and dont worry!
P.s. If you use colorfix you will need to have a haircolor handy to use.But I think you have a wait a full 24 hours after using it before adding the new color.(I didnt cuz I had that wedding to go to and nothing bad happend to me,but I wouldnt reccomend it)

Hi, Julesyjul88, It will be ok for Monica, to apply a colour straight after using a colour fix, its safe, as colour fix dont cause a lot of damage to the hair, so it is safe to re-apply a colour.

I have heard that L'oreal Feria uses a direct dye, which colorfix cannot remove.  But you can try it.  Good luck.  Just remember too, that hair dye fades.  Often when we first dye our hair, it's too dark.  Give it a few weeks or a month to see how the color evolves over time. Also, try to use Liquid Tide (no BLEACH) to fade the color you have.
