Is your hair colored or relaxed?

That part of your hair should have grown out already. Hmmm...

Well.. I flat iron once a week.  But for the last several months it has been every two or so.It will just not revert.  And when I wear it natural that part of my hair looks just matted and uncoiled

I have been transitioning and the front of my hair doesn't seem to be growing at the same rate as the rest of my hair maby that could be the case? I would suggest upping the moisture that you put on that area...adding honey to your conditioner or spray mixes will help also. Aloe vera gel helps the hair to curl also HTH

From what you've stated: that your hair is matted and coiled and it wont go back to its original texture, I thnk that its damaged from the relaxer. Because the only hair that i know that looks like that is damaged hair, only damaged hair wont change back because it cant, for the simple fact that damaged hair either takes forever to or wont grow.So i think tha it wont grow because its damaged, thats why it looks matted, so CUT IT BABY!! lolz.. well thats my solution. But cut it in increments / a lil at a time. we dont want you walking around with no edges.

Girl, you are crazy!  You know I'm not cutting it, especially if I've transitioned for almost a whole dang year, uh uh!  The thing is.. when it's wet, I can tell that it is natural hair, but it's not coiled.  There's a distinct difference between the relaxed ends and what has grown...I can tell.  Maybe it's a different texture?  It's also like that in the back edges too.  Whenever I flat iron, in general it takes my hair probably 3-4 weeks before my hair reverts to a full natural texture. ..   I guess the front row is more of a deep wave thing..

umm hmm .. keep tellin yourself that girl! all i see fit is a slight but precise trim on them edges.

Oh I am!  I trim often enough, so I have no idea why it would be damaged.  I'll take a picture later this week and show you..And I know it grows because I started with 2 inches or so and now I'm about 6 inches longer now.

maybe your hair is just trained to be straight at the edges from styling options. I know with my hair when I am flat ironing, the front of my hair always looks as though it doesn't need as much heat as the rest of my hair. It is noticebly straighter. Usually I do where my hair pulled back in a bun or a ponytail (especially after a co wash)and in most cases the front is "slicked" back. When I take it out of the pony of course the front is straight and the rest of my hair is curly or poofy. That could be the reason ...

The EXACT thing happened to me when I got my hair professionally straightened (flat ironed not relaxer.) It was stick straight for 2 weeks and then when I tried to wash it out- Oh my gosh! It was still straight. It finally went back to curly but it smelled burnt and had straight ends everywhere. My sister thought I was insane because I was screaming in frustration.
