My friend is going grey and she's allergic to something in hairdye, called ddp (?).
Would Henna be a solution for her? She's wearing wigs on her gorgeous afro!!! What a shame!!! Any suggestions girls? ------------- I learn to love and try to understand everyone I meet. I see the rainbow hiding in their eyes.

It could be the particular color line that she is allergic to. Possibly a different color line would work. You mention she has afro hair type. Does she yield the same allergic reaction to a chemical relaxer? If you are not sure visit an allergist to learn more about her allergies....an allergic reaction to a haircolor can actually be life threatening in very rare instances. Henna could cause the same reaction so please see a doctor. She could be on a prescription medicine like predisone that causes or intensifies the allergic reaction to the chemical compound in hair dyes. Like I said see a doctor. |

That must be frustrating! I'm allergic to something in self-tanners. I color my hair and haven't had a problem yet. I am allergic to one eye pencil I've tried called Henna (by Merle Norman). I wonder if that means I will be allergic to Henna dyes as well. Maybe she could consult an allergist about an opinion. Also, she should always do a patch test to see how it works for her before doing her entire head. |

| Alayney, I used to get bumps from one, then I tried another and then the situation presented itself again. I'm guessing I'm allergic to the active ingredient in tanners and also to the pigment in Henna! It's pathetic, I can't even use perfume bc it makes me sick too. I guess my biochemistry is touchy or something! It's no fun bc now all summer I have a choice of being stark-white or have to tan in the tanning booth (which isn't healthy). |

Hi All, It is surprising to note that people could be allergic to henna as well. I never knew that. Henna is obtained from a natural plant. If you are using processed products, this may cause some allergy but if you can get hold of plant leaves directly, grind these and make a paste with water and use. The only 'worst' thing about henna is, it gives bright orange shade, which is not what I would like to have. I am allergic to permanent hair dyes and although I am not allergic to henna, I don’t want 'orange' colored hair in contrast to my natural brown hair. Result: I am living up with gray
 Can't we have some 'natural, true herbal' hairdye in color of our choice?
