Was briefly famous with "Legends of the Fall", "First Knight" and "Sabrina". Also well known for long hair which was cut for Sabrina and again a few years ago. Seems now to have grown it out--though it's a bit messy.

I think she looks terrible... She looked much better in short hair.

Joins Maria Shriver, Caroline Kennedy (somewhat) and other older women whose hair lies too long, too straight and too flat, doing nothing to soften their angular faces. I don't get why older, mature women (who I am not dissing, by the way; I tend to find older women far more sexy than the Jessica Simpsons of the world) choose 6-year-old styles. I think looking their age with shorter, more "styled" styles would be far sexier.

I hate to end the year on an argumentive note, but dang it, Curly, your apparent belief that women of a certain age can't have long hair or a certain style is unfair to older women. I've known numerous women who agreed with your view, had their hair cut and regretted that the new, shorter look aged them considerably -- in many cases, a decade or more. Maria Shriver is a prime example of a woman who is beautiful with her hair at its current length and style, but would look dramatically older with short hair. Yeah, I'd probably rather live in a world in which all women had long hair. While that's not possible, I am pleased to have the opportunity to fight for older people's right to have long hair and not worry about what others may think.

Well, Julia Ormond looks terrible in that picture, and her hair is a mess. Long hair may be fine for her, but she needs to actually style it.
As for Maria Shriver - definitely a woman who should have long hair. However, I do think if she styled it a little differently (wavier, layered around her face a bit more) it would soften her very angular features.
YMMV.

Down, Kramer. I respect your right to like long hair on older women, and I respect their right to have long hair if they so choose. I'll even agree that long hair is sexy on some older women - Jane Seymour comes to mind. But hers is nicely styled. My point is more that long hair with the STYLE Julia has in this picture - scraggly, messy, flat - just isn't flattering at all. It makes me think they're trying to look younger in sort of a false way, just as if they were wearing sparkly nail polish, rather than embracing their age and showing off how women can look older and look sexy in what I think is a more "put together," classier way.
That's just my opinion, of course. I'm not saying they CAN'T have long hair or a certain style, only that I'm not a fan. My apologies if I wasn't clear on that.
Happy New Year, everyone -

The "problem" in the pic is not the hair. It's primarily the lighting and the facial expression.

My verdict is that the bad lighting, uncombed hair and no makeup made for a bad photo. But, Julia is still stunning, and the very worst thing she could do is cut her hair (again!)
My opinion is that her hair in "Legends" was the most sensuous *real* hair I've ever seen on the big screen. It was a horrible and career-damaging move when she cut her locks short for "Sabrina", I believe. Yes, she looked cute, but much older, with her hair *styled* in that movie, but off-screen it was incredibly frumpy. Her unkempt scarecrow-like photo shoot in the "New Yorker" made her look like a street lady. All her mystique was extinguished in those pictures, and Hollywood leading ladies are well-served by a little mystery, IMO. It's long past time that her stupefying long tresses returned. It's never too late! Best, Bob

Did someone just use "beautiful" and "maria shriver" in the same sentence?!?!
Yikes...take a peak at pics of the older kennedy women...not good!
My two cents.

Maria is a Shriver. Can't say I've seen pics of other Shriver women. And age takes a toll on everyone.

Actually, that probably wasn't one of the best photos from those available.

Actually I think Julia looks rather lovely with long hair and her hair is in nice condition.
