She said that 'by using the 10v, I will not get a perm result and the result will be a semi permanent color. If it all goes wrong and you do not like the color, you can always do a 'soap cap' by mixing half developer and half shampoo for 10 minutes to remove the color and you will be back wehre you started'.

 

Ok- SO I went home and did it- and didnt like it. OK no prob- did waht she said about the soap cap. Guess what didnt work. Did I just dye my hair permanantly? Was what she told me a load of rubbish??

 

I dont want to lighten my hair, I just want tho color out. I dont want to put any more devolper on my hair to 'lift the color out' I just want my natural color back.

 

I want to go back to my natural color but I am worried that this isnt a semi. Will Clairol uncolour work for me??

What Sally's girl forgot to tell you is that red is THE hardest color to remove even if it's the color that fades the fastest. 

 

She also neglected to mention that semi-permanent haircolor is NOT a try before you buy haircolor.  There's no such thing, unless you buy one of those Roux Fanci-full washout rinses.  Semi-perm can last permanently, especially on damaged, over-processed hair that "grabs" color.

 

There are a few things you can try.  The first is to wash your hair several times with a harsher soap, like Dawn dishwashing detergent (making sure to condition well). You'll see some of the color start to lift out.  It's a sure bet that the color will fade considerably in the next week or two.  This might even be enough...I would give it some time. 

 

The other option is to use a color-remover but since I am not skilled in the use of one, I would either hold on and see if somebody else posts a bit of advice for you, or read through some of the other posts on this forum.

People at Sally's are not licensed HairStylists....if they were licensed they would be working in a salon making more money. Using 10 Volume with Permanent HairColor is a permanent color change! Semi-Permanent is DEPOSIT ONLY and Permanent using any volume developer is well PERMANENT! Soap caping it will remove the color it will lighten it to more of an orange but you would need to use bleach and shampoo...and then your just going to be creating more problems and creating damage in your hair that you probably have no idea how to fix. 

 

I'm a licensed HairStylist in NY but I don't want to provide you any color advice without actually seeing your hair. You can read my Introduction at the top of the Color Thread that says "Introduction to HairColor" to help you have a better understanding of HairColor but my best advice is goto a salon, pay a trained color professional to correct what you have done to your hair to minimize the risk of further damaging your hair.

I spent years growing out my natural color. I just wanted to try the red on, to see. Now I am stuck with it. I am so very angry.

 

I thought that since it was a 10 v it will deposit only. Now I KLnow better. My hair is in pretty good shape it was uncolored before this. I dont want to belach it out tho. I just want my old hair back.

 

 

 

Before you spend $40, 50 or 60 trying this and that and ending up with unsatisfactory results my best advice I can give you is to goto a salon and have it done professionally. It's what we are paid to do. Doing the color yourself is only going to complicate the problems and create more corrective work to have the hair fixed properly. You are looking to tint back to your natural haircolor which depending on your hair length could cost anywhere from $85 - $125 possibly slightly more. If you attempt it yourself and mess things up worse it would cost you double that to get it fixed or your hair could be damaged beyond repair. If you can't afford that cost call in your area to some local beauty schools and ask if they do corrective color work as you are looking to tint back to your natural color. A beauty school would cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 - $40 to get it fixed....probably less than you'd pay if you attempt it yourself. And it's overseen by a licensed professional. That's the best advice I can give you.

I was telling my friends about what happened. They suggested I go get some color stripper, and bleach all the color out, and then I can recolor it to whatever color I want.

I went to the salon. And I had a professional help me. If I can't trus the ladies in Sally's, no way am I listening to my freinds bleachind advice!

 

The girl put alot of foil hightlights into my hair to break up the red. She was able to take it don to golden blonde but they didnt go white. She offered to put a toner on, to take out some of the gold- but since I am still using the harsh shampoo to try and fade the remaining red- the toner wont last long. We opted insted to get some shimmer lights (purple shampoo) and use that as needed.

 

My hair still looks warm- but it looks like a color I wanted on purpose- its not red anymore, and there was no bleacing of the whole head.

 

I am going to be writing a letter to Sallys and asking them to refund me for all I spent and pay me for the corrective color. The woman in sally's actually told me I can use 10v developer with ANY color I can find at walmart to make it a temp-semi perm color. I dont want her repeating that advice to any one else, and when I am done with sally's you can be sure it wont happen again in THAT store.

 

Thanks for all your advice, and I am grateful that my hair didnt fall out. Its not the color I had before I started- and its not the color I intended- but I dont want to cry everytime I look at it.

Good luck with your letter to sally's, but I would write to their head office and complain, hears hoping you get a reply an apoligy and a refund.

 

Can I just add to people doing their own hair , Red is the most difficult colour to remove from hair, just to bare this in mind.

I got rid of the red color of my hair without bleach with a product named color oops. I get it at walgreens. works very well for me.

Well, as I said she was not able to remove ALL the red so my highlights are a bit Gold. I used some purply shampoo and I will continue with that. I am hoping it will tone  the highlights as well as tone done the remaining red (make sense?) If I could find one of those wash out colorings- in an ash tone, I think that would help. You know the ones you use and then it shampoos out the next time. I keep looking in the mirror- and not wanting to cry :)

 

She did offer to tone it after the highlights but I really didnt see the point that stuff washes out so soon anyways- and I am still using the clarifying to fade the red, too.
