Hi -

This may be a dumb question - you all seem to know a lot more about hair color than I do. I hope you can help.

I have never colored my hair, but I want to, just to color the grey. I have found a semi-permanent color that is very close to my own, so there will be no great change.

I have figured out how apply the color - spreading enough towels so I don't get the mixture on the wallpaper (eek!) but I haven't figured out how to rinse it out without causing a major color change to my bathroom ;-)

Have any of you rinsed out color in the shower? I have a plastic (fiberglass?) tub with tile walls. I know the grout is sealed. I just seems that it would be so much easier to rinse it out in the shower than trying to do this in the laundry sink.

I have a hand-held showerhead, so can rinse everything off quickly. I just worry about staining the tub or turning the grout brown.

Any thoughts on how to do this without remodeling afterward?

I appreciate your help.

LOL,of course you can wash it out in the shower.I do it all the time.
It doesnt mess up my shower.If I accidently get some on the walls or something I just wipe it down when I see it and it is fine.Good luck.

I agree. As long as you are sure to rinse it off right after it gets on the surfaces it shouldn't stain anything.

This is all true except for very dark colors. Those pretty much stain immediately. Anything below level 4 should be OK but watch out for anything darker than 4. I used a very dark brown level 3 on a friend at my house and it took forever to get it out of the tub (fiberglass). Bowls are much better to use but of course, you don't have that.

Hi all -

Just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate your input.

It worked!!! I colored my hair without destroying my bathroom!!! I am so relieved - I had pictured this indelible brown goo everywhere - remembering the dark brown Fancifull my mom used to use.

I was feeling a little OCD as I spread newspaper everywhere, but it was worth it. And my bathtub is unscathed! Yay. I guess this was just another one of those things that everybody knew but me.

My hair ended up a little darker than I thought it would, but I like it. I used medium ash brown, which is as close as I could find to my natural color. I'm really glad I didn't use a warmer shade, because in the light, there is this deep auburn glow at the crown of my head (where a lot of the gray was). I would love to have red hair, but with olive skin I think it would just look awful.

It's supposed to wash out in about 28 shampoos, so I guess it will lighten some. I like the color that it ended up.

I'm glad you like it :) In case you find any stains later on, just remember you can use nail polish remover to get them out too
