Im toying with the idea of going back to a medium ash brown, the blonde is really frying my hair. I think I will try and grow some of the blonde out first.

Can you tell from a box what colours will cause less chemical damage, I am thinking about a L'oreal Excellence or Preference product.

Can I safely cover over blonde with the ash brown or am I asking for trouble.

Thanks

stay away from ash....they may turn greenish brown, yuk!!

go to sally's and buy a level 7 natural (they can help) and 10 volume.  apply all over for 20 mins.  as always do a patch test.  you may need to add a small amount of  gold to your formula, as sometimes even a natural color can go ashy.  (a small amount of gold would be 2 inches squeezed out of the tube and added to 2 oz, a whole tube, of your base color)

don't try to go for an ashy color, even though it may be your natural color, it just won't look good.

you will likely have lots of fadage.  you will likely need to recolor in 3 or 4 weeks, thats just how it goes when you go darker.

all color damages hair...no matter what it says on the box, otherwise the color wouldn't last for a day (think fanciful rinse granny used to use).

condition, and it will get better, plus darker hair just looks healthier!!

Thanks txs girl, unfortunately I am in New Zealand and we dont have anything like your Sallys, you just cant buy haircolour other than in a box at a shop or have to pay for the hairdresser. You guys are so lucky you have choice. We are just too small fry I guess!
