It is always best to avoid chemicals during pregnancy. I haven't
heard if the chemicals in dye are actually harmful or not during
pregnancy, but may as well avoid them just in case - especially if they
make your head itch.
Here is a link for some recipes for natural hair dye (but also be
careful using herbs during pregnancy, some herbs should definitely not
be used while pregnant). I'm not sure which ones, as I've never
been pregnant so I didn't need to know, but you can find out easily by
searching the web for "herbs to avoid during pregnancy"( or maybe even
this forum).

Henna is as option that is safe during pregnancy. Be aware that
body art quality henna, which you can buy online, will give you great
color and hair softness, but it is permanent. It comes in red and
you can mix it with other substances to get the color you want.
The henna you buy in health food stores usually has metals in it
(especially if it says it comes in colors besides red), this henna is
less good for your hair, but it is not that bad, and it is not
permanent. Don't use henna if you've bleached or lightened your
hair though, there's a real chance it could go green and stay that
way. Here is a link for BAQ henna with plenty of info and recipes
for different colors: http://www.hennaforhair.com/samples/index.html - http://www.hennaforhair.com/samples/index.html
