Has anyone ever tried making wefts using silicone? I'm currently experimenting on using pure silicone to make wefts using loose hair & wanting to see if anyone has ever tried it. & on another note if it did not work for making weft it would probably work great on sealing a weft, with the proper application technique. Also if anyone knows, I am using 100 percent pure silicone. I'm assuming since there are no cancer warnings and it's pure silicone it would be safe.

I'm going to play guinea pig here. I just made one last night, I just installed the mini piece and it stuck fine to the liquid gold & hair. I will note that it says it can't handle over 400 degrees. I wear plastikhaar so that's not a problem. I did gob up some & I'm perfecting the technique.

So far my comments, curly hair would be harder to do. i think I've mastered the sealing with silicone, still mastering the laying out and taping down the hair, i bought body wave so it's more dificult to tape down. Straight would be so much easier. It's not difficult & to see how it holds up would be the main issue. Since there is no weft it is invisible, I installed with LG. You would notice with outgrowth. I'm excited and will let all of you know the outcome.

If it works, I will post a full detail, i can't take credit for the idea, it was on Sherries board from MissLou.

I have personally never used silicone. My own peek into safety data sheets spook me enough to stay away. Fumes, skin contact, etc. you really need to look into the MSDS information on the particular product you have. There's various silicone products so I'd recommend with whatever you have, look at the warning label. If you're unclear whether it's harmful or not, you can contact the company directly. :)

This one had no safety warning, pure silicone, some of them did scare me with additives and cancer warnings. I will contact the company since it doesn't say anything about dangers. Other than ventalation. It doesn't stink, I just leave the air running and I have a big ventalated room. I did not buy the newest stuff with other additives. I will contact the company just to check.

I found this general one and have requested an in depth one.

I might have something & a technique. Now I'm being very health contious when doing this, the first item was GE 100% pure silicone, I called the company & they just plain lie, there are items more than silicone in it. Yes I went overboard & did research on the net & it seems a lot of the caulks & silicones emit toxins after installed even in your shower...scary. I may have found an environtmental one & am confirming. Home depot now has warnings on most caulks about causing cancer & such including liver damage...no thank you.

The stuff I've bought is not silicone. found at the hardware store & once I ensure safety, it's listed as environmentally friendly & perfect the technique I will post a demo. I'm just being extremely cautious with anything that we would wear.

Wanted to give everyone a heads up so far. I have found a safe caulk! It is actually acrylic. I will be doing a miniweft tonight & testing it out. It is safe & nontoxic. So cross your fingers, we may have a winner!

Update: I think I've done it, will be confirmed this weekend!!!
