Ok, so here's the thing.
I wanted to dye my hair a red color.
My husband wants me to go blonder.
I told him fine then I'll do the top light blonde and the underneath red.
My hair is somewhat layered.
My question is, is it best to do it at all one layer or is the layered look ok?

I think the top layer blonde over the bottom layers red will look like a neat combination. 
You can always stick the top blonde layer under a hat too, to look like all your hair is red. Fun!I'm not sure I understand your question though. Its better to separate the top layer of hair that you want blonde, and keep them separate through out the procedure. I just meant I have some layers in my hair.
Would that look ok with the different lengths or or it look better with the half blond and half red if it was all one length.
To do that I would probably have to cut my hair just under my chin. My long layers are about 2 inches below my shoulders.

I think it will look cooler since you have layers. I have seen this look alot recently and I really like it! (the multi-colors with layers) |

I agree, better to do different layers all one color, than having a line of demarcation on one length hair.
