1.) I have blond hair (i'm a guy.. just had to get that out of the way) and i've been darkening it to a dirty blond for quite some time now and I think it looks better that way. I've always like the look of dark haired people with lighter streaks/highlights, so do you think it would work if I darkened my hair to a dark dirty blond then put blond streaks on top of that? Or do two dyes not work with each other?
2.) I'm looking for a new style. I think I have a heart shaped face, but I really have no idea.. I decided that just from what i've briefly read. I generally look good with bangs of some sort casting shadows on my face, but when I get it shorter (about 2 1/2 - 3 inches) I like how I look with messed up/tousled spikes too. I think it's thick btw.

I've been trying to get that style for about a year now with no luck. I have literally tried every type of product invented and every method possible. Right now I just stick my hair out in front and spike the top a little, it't the closest I can get.

I've always liked Brad Pitt's hair style from the pic you posted. I think it's one of my very favorites. As for the last few pics you provided, they look more like the lack of styling. Seeing that they're athletes in the middle of a sweaty game... It's kind of a morning hair/hat hair thing. I don't think you'd have to have curly or even wavy hair to achieve that look. I've seen guys with straight hair pull it off. (as long as it's not extremely straight and flat) I'm not a stylist, so I really don't know what to tell you. | That's ok, to be honest i'm surprised I even got a reply, from what I remember these boards were kind of a ghost town! I was gonna check back in a month or so... but yeah his hair is cool, but like I said i've been aiming for that style for over a year using every cut/product/method on the planet and nothing seems to get it right. |

Its easier to lighten hair if it hasn't been previously dyed, and the
darker it has been dyed, the more work it will take to lighten
it. So, as you said if you want the blonde highlights you will
probably have to bleach those pieces. You should get it done
professionally, as there are a lot of chemical issues you'd have to
consider, and you'd probably have to tone those pieces after they were
bleached, so it'd be easier just to let someone who knows what they're
doing do it for you. A stylist can certainly give you any colors
you want, even though you've dyed it before. And you are talking
about hair that is relatively short, so you probably don't have to
worry about damage sticking around too long or getting too bad, you
will cut it all off relatively quickly, even with the longer styles you
posted. I agree with Sarah, it doesn't look like most of those men tried to get their hair like that, its just a shortish cut that is tousled and messy. I don't understand what your question is about the thread, but anyway I
think that guy does probably have his hair straightened with a flat
iron. His hair looks kind of dry, probably from the dyeing as
well as the straightening, and that would help hair to hold any texture

You said it looks like he straightened his hair with a flat iron... would I get the same look if I chemically straightened it? And on the same note, would it be safe to chemically straighten after all the coloring I mentioned? My ideal ending would be to be able to get up, shower, comb and go and get that look without having to straighten manually each morning.
(By look I mean kind of straw-like like the Lacoste guy pictured above has it; sounds undesirable but I like it)

Having it chemically done may work, but it may not stay stick straight
just when you get out of bed in the morning, you may still have to mess
with it a little to get it exactly how you want it. Your hair
probably will get a little straw-like after all of that, so if you like
it, that should work. I would go to a salon to have the chemical
straightening done professionally though. They can see your hair
in person and decide if it would be too damaging to do it after the
dye, or if you'll need a re-dye (you don't want your hair falling out,
and that could possibly happen if you try to straighten it yourself).

Thanks Susan, and don't worry I know you meant no harm by the last sentence One more question -- if I got my hair dyed then bleached then chemically straightened like I said, would I still need to put any sort of product into it to get the look pictured above? Like could I just shower, shampoo and comb and be on my way? |

| Bump... I don't know whether to get a flat-iron or get my hair chemically straightened. Again, if I got my hair chemically straightened, would I be able to wake up, shower, comb and be on my way, no products needed, and have the texture/style of the guy in the pic? |

I don't know the answer. Everyone's hair is different and no one
can predict how good a chemical is going to work on your texture of
hair (for example, perms don't take in my hair, but they do work for
many people). You may just want to try it, and if you don't like how it
works, go for the flat-iron the next time. If your hair was
straight and bleached like the guy's in the picture, it should pretty
much just fall like that, or it may stick up and you may have to wet it
some to get it to lay down. He's not exactly defying gravity or
anything.

Another question -- do you think his hair is gelled or has any sort of product in it? I'm just wondering because I want to have a style that I can wear down like in the picture or push it back. With something making the hair hard or holding it to a style, I wouldn't be able to push it back freely...
On the same note, if I had that length and got out of the shower and just pushed my hair back, it woudn't stay like that, it would fall forward as soon as it dries. Still, I see people all around with that style and their hair just stays back. It's not ahrd or anything so I don't think they're using any sort of product... any ideas?
