Hello All.

This is my first time posting, and I hope to do more in the future.

I was reading Karen`s article on the popsicle stick curlers and I told my mom about it and she was willing to try it. The only thing is that when I was reading through the instructions, it says on #5 that the hair needs to go around the foil on the stick.

My questions are:

1. Is the foil really necessary? From what the article said, it seemed to to be.

2. If the foil is necessary, will I have to put foil on the whole stick or just the center part where the tip of the hair would go?

3. Should I wrap the hair horizontally or vertically?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you
Mathew B.

This is an old one, but since I`ve had many a perm in my day, I`ll bite Mathew. I may be wrong, but the foil is probably for protecting the hair. I wouldn`t recommend not doing it. If you want corkscrew curls, then you would put foil on the whole part, since the hair is probably going to be wound from the bottom of the stick to the top. If you are going for waves, then just foiling the middle is fine.

If you want corkscrews, then you`ll want to have mom take your tip and start at the bottom, spiraling your hair as she winds th stick up (the stick will be straight up and down, not horizontal). Now, for waves, it would be horizontal and all she would do is take your tip and start wrapping up towards your crown. Understand that if she does this, your crown area waves will be less tighter than your tips.

If you have any other questions, ask.

Spunky Girl,

Thanks for the help.

The only thing I forgot to mention is that I was going to be doing my mom`s hair this way not mine. I thought I had made that clear in my post, but going back and re-reading it I realized my mistake.

Anyway, my mom has vary fine hair and I`d really like to see her in curls for one day. I`m the one that would be doing her hair this way so I thought I would just ask.

Again, thank you for the help.
Mathew B.

Ooh...if mom has fine hair, I don`t know what product to use, but you would want to use something that would help fine hair "set". I want to say setting lotion, but you`re best bet is to ask a pro opr someone at a beauty store. Also, if her hair is fine be careful that the curls may (just a "may") wind up as tight as Shirley Temple. Long tim ago, mom did sis with rag curls and she ended up looking like Shirley Temple and there was nothing we could do to salvage it. This is just a warning tho, not saying it`ll really happen.
