I'm guessing it started to fall out.

What leaves me speechless is that this is news on a local news station worthy of sending out a reporter for.

Our country's going to Hell.

I'll say that it was newsworthy.

I have never understood the Britney fascination but she is, for whatever it is worth a major american icon.  The suddden changes in appearance and bizarre behavior may have seemed simply zany to this point, but the report that she first checked in and out of rehab combined with this frankly bizarre headshaving take it to a really different level.  I find myself worried for her and wondering why it is so, so hard for people with every advantage in the world to find happiness.

She doesn't have the right head for this.  It doesn't look good.  If she wanted to go for a rock and roll look she could have copied Selma Blair or Pink and had a lot less feeling of desperation.

It isn't just local news. CNN broadcast it on their airwaves, and put more important stories in the scrolling bars. Britney needs help she looks likes she's on drugs, and if she isnt careful will wind up just another celebrity dead of a drug overdose.

Cripe, she did it herself. She didn't want people to touch her? I think this ought to do it.

She actually tried to have the hairstylst do it but they refused.  So she picked up the clippers and did it herself.  The reason she gave for wanting to shave her head was so people would stop touching her.  I am shocked she did this.  I'm sure she will have a wig on in the coming days.

First of all, I think she is messed up (alcohol, drugs, just plain mental?) but I am suprised that the focus is on the shaved head.  There have been others to dawn unusual hairstyles (pink, selma, sinead, joan...) but none of them were said to be in a "cry for help"....
The focus that something must be wrong with her solely based on her shaving her head, isn't right.  Personally, I do not like shaved heads on women but just because they do it doesn't mean they are messed up.
In some cultures, it is expected that women shave their heads once in their lifetime, or is accepted as part of their culture....
Before anyone "jumps" on me - I think Britney needs help, but not based on the fact she shaved her head.  In fact, that act may be one of her more sane actions.  She could be trying to "do away with" the crazy Britney.

Honestly... I don't think it looks bad. She still has a very cute face, and it's almost served better by not being surrounded by the ratty, over-processed hair she had. Now, is it a better look than, say, her semi-natural hair she had when she first appeared on the scene? Not so much. But it looks better than last week. Hopefully, assuming she grows it out, she lays off all of the color changes.

i just figured she was sick of her own uber-crappy hair and decided 'to hell with it'....it does look horrible to me, but so did her ratty hair

I'm not really suprised. As much as she had done to her hair recently it probably felt horrible.Thats why I chopped all mine off.No hair is better than straw hair. And I agree I'm sure she'll be wearing a nice wig soon.

Considering all crap she's inflicted on herself recently and the colour changes she's obviously not comfortable with herself at present - so I'm not totally surprised that she's made a drastic change.

Ouch Looking at her stubble, her hair was NOT falling out! IMO, Britney has not been cute for a long time, maybe since age 17 or so. Too much hard partying can be masked to some extent, but one's eyes betray reality. Britney's simply haven't sparkled in years.
My opinion: Sad, sad, sad! I see her and several other stars following the self-destructive trail of Anna Nicole. Regretfully, Bob

Thank god for that! She really needed to do that. She'll look so much better for it if she doesn't start going mental on her hair again when it comes back in.

I think it's a cry for help. Most definitely.

If her hair was ruined or falling out due to the constant change of color, or extension damage, and needed shaving off, she could do that in complete privacy, and could certainly afford a damn good hairpiece to cover up her baldness in public.

But no. Not only does she bare her shaven head to the papparazi, bold (bald?) as brass, but worse, she even lets the shaving be photographed!

I think her hair probably WAS falling out. She went from blonde to black, black to blonde like at least 5 times just in the last two months! Everytime i picked up a magazine it had Britney with a different hair color....you just cant do that and not expect hair to suffer.
But,she could have just got a cute short cut,she definitely DOES NOT have the right shaped head for this look. Sorry, but it was hard even for DEMI to pull it off.
I have never liked Britney, but she just gets more pathetic as time goes by.

I agree that the bald look is not for her. I would like to see her different looks as she grows out...pixie, short crop, short bobs, long bobs, and then long hair again...but if i had to guess, i'd say we'll probably only see wigs for quite a while. If she wanted to make a statement, why is she already covering it up with blonde bobbed wig?

My two cents.

From ET Online:

http://yahoo.eonline.com/celebrities/profile/index.jsp?uuid=4299b69e-a001-4915-9331-1ccd05b6b365 - Britney Spears ' locks could soon be on the block.

The owners of the salon where the "Oops" singer shaved her head Friday exclusively tell E! News' Giuliana DePandi that Spears' shorn tresses were saved and may be sold for a good cause.

"She didn't want her hair. We have it here at the salon and we will probably auction it off for charity," said J.T. Tognozzi, who co-owns Esther's Hair Cutting Studio in Tarzana, California, with his wife, Esther.

Tognozzi didn't elaborate on a timetable for any auction or which charity might be the beneficiary of Spears' mane, but he did offer new details of the buzz cut heard 'round the world.

He says that Spears, accompanied by two bodyguards, knocked on the door  around 7 p.m. Friday. Spears had never been to the salon before, and the shop was closed for the night, but Esther Tognozzi says that she immediately recognized the singer and let her in.

Spears said she wanted to get her head shaved. Esther Tognozzi sat her down, looked her over and then suggested less drastic alternatives.

"I said, 'Please, let's not have a hormonal moment.' "

But Spears wasn't budging.

"She was on a mission," said Tognozzi. "She had made up her mind that she was shaving her head before she came in."

According to Tognozzi, Spears said she was tired of her hair extensions and wanted to make like Sinead O'Connor. When Tognozzi said she didn't want to be responsible for shaving Spears' hair, the singer then asked if she could do the deed herself.

"She grabbed the shears and just started shaving her head," J.T. Tognozzi said. Asked if anyone tried to intervene, he responded, "No, she wasn't there with any friends. Just a couple of bodyguards who didn't try to stop her."

"She wasn't very talkative, in fact, I kept talking to her about the kids, and I asked about her baby, hoping that I could convince her and talk her out of continuing," added Esther Tognozzi.

She said that Spears didn't appear to be under the influence of anything and remained "emotionless" for the most part, "except for when she said, 'Oh my god, my mom's going to be so upset,' and she had tears in her eyes."

Once Spears put down the clippers, Tognozzi offered to finish the job and dust the hair off.

Spears topped off the image makeover moments later by stopping at a the Body and Soul tattoo parlor in nearby Sherman Oaks to be inked with a black, white and pink cross on her lower hip and red and pink lips on her wrist.

When word got out that Spears was in the house, police were called to control the crowd and help her bodyguards get her into her SUV. A hoodie covered her as she was ushered out of Body and Soul.

Well if she didn't want anyone to know she was having a melt down. She did it the wrong way. If this was some sort of a stunt well it worked. Everyone was talking about it today. She and maybe the guards might know why she did this. Well as someone pointed it her hair needed a new start might as well do it this way.

I would never do it but I know how she feels once her hair is wrecked. I fried mine and felt like chopping it all off but luckily I have got away with just getting it layered. It used to be long and curly. We got the Britney story on our news and I live in New Zealand!

Britney has become a laughingstock, but I'm not smiling. She needs several months of intensive rehab, lest her mental breakdown will lead to her death. She desperately needs to find purpose outside her own self-interested world, and know that she is loved for *who*, not what, she is. I wish her Godspeed. Broken%20Heart Bob

I find it ironic that so many people chose to criticise Britney for this and spread rumours about the condition her hair was in before hand or suggest that she was heading for a breakdown, and yet when other women chose to do it - that was okay!

Posted By: julesyjul88
Date Posted: March 04 2007 at 11:48pm
Seraphina,I dont think anyone was wrong to assume the condition of her hair was bad. She went from blonde to black, black to blonde, blonde to black about 4 or 5 times. That puts extreme damage to hair,no matter if she has the best stylists or not.
I dont think others generally think it is ok for women to just shave their heads. Anytime anyone does it,there seems to be a bit of scruitny that goes along with it....unless there is a valid reason for it to be done. I think more or less people were just shocked that she would do this, and I think that was what she was aiming for, personally.

Other women choose "bald" as a style and other non-health related reasons, and while I can't feign understanding, I don't assume that they are cracking. Britney is *clearly* suffering, and this was one symptom. Since she does not seem to have an evil heart, I wish her Godspeed. Best, Bob Smile

What's to understand? Some people like chocolate and others like vanilla. Some people like opera and don't like sports. Some like sports and don't like opera. Different strokes for different folks. If we all preferred the same things, the world would be a boring place. Personally I wouldn't want blue hair or initials shaved into my head, but some people do. Good for them.

I'm not sure if this is common, but Britney has become something women use to threaten/tease men.

From the girlfriend: Oh well, in that case, now seems like a good time to tell you that I just got the "Britney" haircut.

It is just shocking because not very many women DO choose to shave their heads bald. When you go out,you arent likely to see it like you do other hair styles. To most women, being bald is something that would depress them very much. Just look at all us on this forum~trying to figure out to protect our hair and help it grow faster.
It's not that we judge anyone who does this, merely,we dont understand it I guess.
But like I said,Britney's hair was apparently in bad shape,so it is somewhat understandable that she'd do this.
I also dont think it would be such a big deal if she wasnt exhibiting other odd behaviors before this happend. It has become more of a ,"What is she going to do next?" kind of deal.

She and K-Fed are in the midst of a nasty child-custody fight precipitating from their divorce.  It has been reported that K-Fed is building a case that she is an unfit mother and was planning to play the substance abuse card and have her hair tested for drugs.  The theory is she shaved her head to avoid this.

We can all bicker about the reasons why she did it and whether shaving one's head is an indication that ones lug nuts are not properly torqued.  I think it's apparent that Britney's a very troubled person.  Psychological problems, depression, stress and substance abuse take their toll and can lead one to do some very irrational things.  I think the haircut was one of them.

Dead C'mon Horse, that's a cheap shot at a woman who  is facing formidable, possibly life-threatening difficulties. I'm not amused about anything Britney. I know that people must laugh to cope, though.

Taking "cheap shots" in such situations is just as much within the realm of reaction of members of the general populace as is having grave concern for the individual in question.

Based on some of your posts here Bob, I would never have had any clue you were so well satisfied.
