I started out with cornrolls, so my hair was pretty long before I decided to get locs. But it's like my hair won't lock! Well....the back is locking a little bit, but the front is barely locking..and my TIPS are not locking AT ALL....I don't think I should still be in this stage at 8 months in. The end of June will be a full year...ANY ADVICE?!?!

Try using lock gel. You may have to touch it up more often until it starts locking on its own. There is also a special type of thread that you can use for starting off locs it is layne yarn you can also try a small piece of braid hair to hold the loc then take it off as the loc starts to stay on its own..it will be very time consuming because you need to touch up at least every seven days. Time consuming but well worth the effort... I hope this helps. There is also a book called No Lye! by Tulani Kinard..it has lots of braid..loc information.
