OK, so here's the deal: My hair was a dark blonde/light brown with some reddish tones. I self-dyed my hair black with a demi-permanent dye, which I absolutely HATED!!! It was one of the worst possible tones with my skin. So, in the interest of my dignity :) I bleached it today (a week later) with the objective of getting it close to my original. Well, thankfully I didn't get a brilliant orange color. But it's a rather obvious copper. I kind of like it the way it is; it's good on my skin tone, but I'd really like to get it back to the original.
SO, my plan is to go to the store tomorrow and get a light reddish brown dye, possibly a light ash brown. I figure that will get me close to my original. Is that a good plan? I would like to be able to fix it within a week. I could keep the shade I have now, but I'd rather not.
Let me make something clear: I CANNOT afford a professional colorist! I can barely afford the home dye.

Well you should have used colorfix first. I think it will be the copper color until you do decide to cover it up with --not light reddish brown--I think you have enough red right now--strand test an ash color if you can. Miss Clairol at Sally's has a couple colors you could try to cover that with...Strand test for sure though. Moonhaze and Moongold is the green based dye, although Moongold is slighly warmer. Also, try using a straight blue based dye to correct the copper. It's really hard to say exactly what color to use as I do not have a picture of your exact color and you really do need to strand test to be sure what the results will be. You can be sure though that you are probably stuck with that copper color--I mean don't expect to dye to pale yellow--until your hair fades or grows out, when you bleached that permanent dye, that color sort of stuck in your hair. Good luck and I hope this helps.
