Yikes! IMO, the best of the locks rate an 8 maybe, with several 2's. Under no circomestances will I be caught watching this show. In past years, when they did have someone with phenomenal locks, they either butchered them (Jennipher's) or normalized them (Anchal's). This show, with its proclivity toward "trendy" (to me, "lackluster") hair, is not my cup of tea. Blessings, Bob

Funny, I found almost all of them better than the before pics.

I thought most of them looked better but it seems they have a problem with blondes this season; all the blondes had their hair dyed a much darker color.

ANTM's makeovers are always 'downgrades'...

They all looked better, much better, after their makeovers. They went from plain to very beautiful.
Makeovers by professionals usually work, that is why they get paid for what they do.
As far as the blondes going to brunette hair, I am not sure why they
did that, but considering how many brunettes go to blonde, it doesn't
bother me any. They all looked very good after their makeovers, including the women that went from blonde to brunette.

First of all, they're all MODELS. There's nothing plain about them. The producers don't pick plain people to be on the show. If anything, they showed up the day of the makeover with no makeup and the professional makeup artists did their thing. So it's hard to argue with the fact that they looked pretty after the makeup.
The question is: Was there an overall improvement after the makeover was done? This comes down to a matter of taste.
I've never understood why the show can't judge the models on their natural beauty. I have grown to despise Tyra Banks and her sanctimonious attitude toward these women who show up with stardom and fame in mind, ready to do whatever it takes to become the next Tyra. For her to stand judgement and say, "You, gorgeous longhaired model: you will have your hair butchered!" is rediculous and even odd -- especially for someone who on a daily basis wears wigs and weaves.
Tyra and the producers have totally turned me off. I won't watch the show any more. For those of you who really think the makeovers were all improvements, go to the home page of the show and see what they really looked like before the makeovers. I'm not talking about the one day they didn't wear makeup. I'm talking about their original photos and their portfolios.

Yes of course they are models and they are beautiful, but before the makeover most of them looked relatively plain.
Even beautiful women can look plain.
They looked more beautiful after the makeover, it is just a matter of a
better use of makeup, an improved hairstyle for their features,
prettier clothes and jewelry, etc..
They, of course, don't "butcher" those models hair, they give them professionally done, attractive modern hairstyles.
If you don't like Tyra or her show, fine, then don't watch it, it is a
free country, people can watch what they like. Many people obviously
enjoy the show, it gets fairly good ratings. But suit yourself.

Some people seem to be missing the point of America's Next Top Model. The makeovers aren't done for the sake of improving the models' looks. The competition isn't to pick the prettiest girl. It's about being the best model. I don't understand what it takes to be a "great" model, but the people who decide which models they want do.
Being a model is about carrying off the look that the designer wants for a runway model or the advertiser wants for a print ad or whatever else they're modeling. So they're not trying to make the girls look more attractive to us. They're trying to make them look attractive to people who book models. These people might be more inclined to book a model because her hair is a certain way, even if many people think it isn't as pretty as she used to have it.
What Tyra and her people explain during the episode why they are giving the models certain looks. They believe those looks will make the model more appealing to the photographers, designers, et al. I'd trust their judgement on that more than I'd trust my judgement or anyone else here.
If you're looking for shows that are about making someone look better, try What Not To Wear, Ambush Makeover or one of those. This ain't that.
I agree with makeitshort. The episode is always lots of fun. When some girl cries about getting her hair cut, it's entertaining television. That's the real goal here.
