Currently, I have thick, wavy to curly, layered hair (just below shoulders to chin length), and I want to cut my hair shorter. I have a picture of my hair now below.

A haircut that I would really like is:

Will this haircut work with my hair?
What are some other haircuts that will work with my hair texture?

I think you would rock with that hair.  I don't see why it wouldn't work but take the pic to a professional and see.

I just wasn't sure if my hair is too curly and thick for that cut

Are there any other cuts that you can think of? I don't want to go too short though

If you can master the art of blow drying I think that style would be great fro you!

Do you know of any photos of hair similar to Mandy Moore's in the above picture, but a bit longer? I'm a bit apprehensive about cutting my hair that short right away...

Don't worry about how short it is but think about how great you'll look.  GO FOR IT!!!  There are plenty of pictures there; you'll just have to do some digging.

I think you would look very hot with this style. It's not too short and think it's better to just dive straight in. otherwise you will get something i between you won't really like. Go for the style that catches your eye.

I would say a slight wave in your hair would add a more funky dimension and having think hair is a blessing as a stylist can always thin it out but they can not add volume easily.  Take the picture to your stylist and see what they think, i'm sure they will say it will suit you and be easy to do.

Post some more pictures after it's cut so we can see how great you will look Big%20smile

Enjoy

Hi! Thanks for commenting on my thick wavy hair thread! I actually did have a haircut like the one you want only a little bit longer version. My hair seems to have a bit more of a mind of it's own than yours does, but the cut did work on me. I had to use a flat iron and some styling product on it everyday though and sometimes touch up with the iron in the evening when it was humid. It is a fun cut and does look good, but for me it was a lot of work, so I eventually grew it out.  I don't like to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning, but depending on your preferences it might not be too much work. I say go for it if you want to! :-)

I have a couple more questions to ask before I decide for sure if I am going to cut my hair short.

First, how often would I need to get my hair cut with this short style?
Also, how much work would the cut require on an average morning? What products would I use?
Finally, I currently compete in swimming and lifeguard, so my hair would be wet often. What maintenance would I have to do to keep it looking good right after being wet.

Please answer my questions, because I want to cut my hair, but want to wait until all of my questions and worries have been assessed... :)

I don't know much about the maintenance of curly hair, but I know there are products to use where it looks really cute if you just scrunch and go. My mom uses them and they look cute. Blowdrying always takes time, but I don't think it would be that much since the cut is shorter. It doesn't look like a curling iron would need to be used. Your lucky, your hair seems like it would do fine if you just let it air dry when its that short. The curl seems like it would just take its place.

Will this cut work well with hair as thick as mine, or will it look puffy and frizzy?

A cut like this will require regulars cuts to keep it looking good. Every six weeks. This style will take a little work in the morning with a blow dryer and product. If you don't, it'll probably look flat. It's too short to pull back, although it should fit under a swim cap.

For products, would I use a pomade or wax, or something else? Also, what would it look like without blowdrying, because I go straight from the pool to school on some mornings

After a lot of thinking, I decided to first try a less drastic cut, before cutting my hair that short. I am going to my hairdressers soon, hopefully this weekend, to get a cut like the picture below. It is somewhat similar, but will be less of a shock.

What will the maintenance be on the below picture, and how much work/what products will it require?

Most of the ones you seem to like the most are very blonde... going for that color too?

I'm not thinking of going for the colour right now. I do competitive swimming, so the chlorine tends to strip the colour from the hair. My hair is actually lighter than it looks in the picture of me though.
