I've had the exact same haircut since I was 12 or so..I cut it myself, I never go into a stylist.  I have a long face with a narrow/tiny chin and my hair is kinda thick, not unreasonably so but right after I wash it..it gets kinda poofy.  Otherwise, it's very healthy, wavy..straight auburn hair.

Here's the thing, I want a SEXY, flattering haircut.  I have petite features and I don't want my hair to be overpowering.  I was thinking about long sideswept bangs or maybe just intense layers??, but I'm worried that right after I wash my hair they'll be too poofy!  What do you guys think?  I'm open to any suggestions.  I do however want to keep it at shoulder length...my face is too long to have LOONG hair and too thick to have short hair.  I haven't had bangs of any kind since I was a little kid.

thanks in advance, im sure you guys can help me out!!

I say cut in some bangs.  Then if you have that desire to have looong hair (which btw is incredibly sexy! just ask the majority of men!) the bangs will break up the virtical line and keep your face from looking long and thin.

I have long bangs and I love it!  They're very versatile..... I switch off which side I comb them to, they're long enough to pull back easily if I don't want bangs, sometimes I wear them curly, I can shove them back with the rest of my hair and it gives more the appearance of layers rather than bangs...... lots of options.

tip: start thin and long, you can always go shorter or cut in more as you get used to the look

i like your idea, having the options of layers or bangs, sounds really nice.  hopefully i can word it to my stylist correctly!  otherwise im afraid theyll be poofy/awkward

I keep my bangs usually between nose and chin length with the shortest layers around cheekbone level.  (I cut my own)

Embarrassed I really have no idea.  I've never been to a salon for my hair. (only for nails)
