Hi everyone,
Just discovered this site and I love it! I can`t wait to
read thru all the archives, etc.... I need some advice.
I have dark brown shoulder length hair with some long layers. I am trying to grow my bangs out and they are at a stage where they are driving me nuts. Anyway, I am considering having my fine, but very healthy hair permed somehow- just to kick it up a bit! Do you think a loose spiral wave would like nice? I have a heart-shaped face and I am 38 years old. Are would this look to young for me? Any ideas anyone? I really would like some long fat, loose tendrils. Thanks for your help!

I happen to like spiral perms. However, you can get the look of a spiral perm by experimenting with large perm rods without the perm solution! Apply styling gel to your freshly washed hair. Wrap it around the rod from tip to root in the vertical position (up and down). Then use a hooded dryer or allow it to air dry. You should get a tight curl that falls in spiral form. The longer your hair, the more effective this technique is. You might also try the Sassy Curler ( http://www.adiscountbeauty.com/page375.html - http://www.adiscountbeauty.com/page375.html ). It will give you great spiral waves without the chemicals. If you decide you really like the look, then you can get the perm. Good luck and happy spiraling!

Thanks so much for your suggestions, Merlin.
I will try this before I decide to chemically alter
my nice head of healthy, if stick-straight and limp!
ha.ha.
Thanks again.

Glad I could be of some help. Perms, when properly done, are very nice but they do use powerful chemicals and it is always a good idea to experiment to see if it is what you want. Once you get a perm, it is too late to change your mind. One more suggestion, check to see if the stylist uses actual spiral rods - some "cheat" and use regular rods and that won`t give you the look you are seeking. Let us know how your experiments go and what you decide. Happy curling!!
