I just bought a ceramic straightener, and it says it should only be used on dry hair. Would it hurt it that much to get out of the shower and do it while it's still damp?

Yes it will. Specialy if the iron is not designed for that. It will fry your hair really, really bad!!!! Your hair will be looking like straw in no time.

Would you consider this strawlike? Because this is the texture i'm looking for.... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/LotusM250/_5214282.jpg - http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a283/LotusM250/_5214282.jpg

OK you have to take into consideration, the hair in the picture is healthy hair that has been teased and styled to look that way.

What I'm talking about is damage. Concentrated amounts of steam can cause the hair cuticle to burst from the inside. Moisture will be striped from your hair and you will end up with major breakage. You will have the worst kind of damage. Trust me, you will end up having to cut it all off. You won't see it the first time. But after a few times the damage will be very obvious.
