Need some advice from women so ladies if you don't mind responding>>>>>
I love the long haired permed look on women. I don't mean tight curls I mean a permed look like J-Lo has you know the curls at the bottom of her hair as it cascades down past her shoulders. You seen Jennifer Lopez's permed look. Do you know what I mean? My girlfriend who is 22 and BEAUTIFUL has straight dark hair a little past her shoulders and I asked her to curl it perm it like J-Lo and I showed her a photo of J-Lo and my girlfriend is beautiful like Jennifer. The problem is she doesn't want to set her hair or go to a beauty shop and have it permed. So Ladies on this Hair Talk Board my question is,-How can I convince her to do this. she would look SO GOOD!

Hi Frank,
First of all, you cannot get J-Lo's curl from a perm. She has a staff of 4 hairdressers that shampoo and style her hair everyday. Her hair is rolled and styled that takes about an hour a day. Getting J-Lo's hair is a very popular request in the salon, but you would need 1)be latino 2) have a hair style team working for you.
Second of all, if you really Love her, then love her for who she is. A relationship can really be put on a strain if you begin to try to 'change' her in any way. True love does not mean a 50-50 relationship, it is to give your 100% to the other person in making them happy with no stipulations. You seem to be really blessed to fall in love, enjoy it and put her on a petistal. You will be suprised how far it will get you in the 'respect' catagory.
See ya Loverboy

number 1 if she doesn't want to you can't convice her to do that. would you like it if she wanted you to do something that you didn't want to do? in the summer my husband wanted to grow out his hair. i like it better short. he ended up cutting at the end of summer because HE wanted to. i love him no matter how his hair is. sure i can put my 2 cents in but HE has to do what he likes. plus he is a good looking guy no matter what. number 2 have you seen j-lo in he new video? it is pin straight. personally i like it better. that's just me though. also if your girlfriend's hair is straight [i don't know what type of hair she has] it may not take to a curl. i have a cousin who has straight hair and the curl doesn't stay.

Frank,
It has to ultimately be your girlfriend's decision but your girlfriend doesn't need to be Hispanic or have 4 hairdressers like Jennifer Lopez, to have some nice curl to her hair.
One suggestion to you, that might be romantic and a way that you can convince her to have her hair curled for you; offer to pay for her to go to a nice salon. Include not only having her hair done also buy her the works; you know a facial, a massage, she can get her nails done, etc., a full beauty treatment!
Tell her you would like to do this for her when you are being affectionate with her. That might work!

Honestly, I'd drop it if I were you. She has beautiful hair, right? Perming can damage her hair. It's up to her, of course, but don't push her if she doesn't want to do it. A woman should never change anything about herself to please a man.

Tap Dancer,
He is not asking her to cut off her foot or to change her occupation, he simply would like her to try putting some curl in her hair like millions of women do, and if done properly it doesn't have to destroy your hair!
I agree a woman shouldn't be forced to, or even be pressured to, change her hair style, but honestly haven't you ever done anything to please a man, and hasn't a man sometimes done things to please you? Sometimes people do that for each other. And this is a pretty simple, relatively trivial thing, getting your hair done!
Don't pressure her Frank, but it doesn't hurt , in a nice way, to ask. And offer her the full beauty treatment whether she has her hair curled or not!

Well - she apparently doesn't want to do this. I suggest you drop this and don't put more strain on the relationship. There's nothing ugly about her present look, right? Don't try and fix what ain't broke.
Perms ARE bad for the hair. I would never recommend them.

I'm not saying that a perm will definitely damage her hair, but there's always a chance... And if she wants to please him, she could just curl it sometimes (nothing permanent). Maybe she's worried that she'll get a perm and hate it. Who knows? I would never put chemicals on my hair to please someone, but that's just me. And I'd never ask someone else to alter their appearance.
Just my opinion!

I'm sorry; I forgot to answer your question and I didn't mean to "ignore" it. No, I have never done anything to please a man. Well, not apperance-wise. I've done nice little things like give unexpected gifts and stuff. People do THOSE kinds of things for one another. I've had guys tell me I'd look better with shorter or longer hair, suggest wearing certain clothes, comment on my makeup... Where are these guys now? Who knows? I'm happy with how I look and I don't mind putting my hair up sometimes if a boyfriend likes it that way, but I wouldn't do something permanent to it just because he requested it. I hope I don't sound like I'm bickering with you; I'm not. I guess I feel a little sensitive because I know some real jerks. I'm all about doing things to make yourself happy before you change to please others.

She doesn't need to perm her hair to please her guy Frank. She could just set it and curl it.
And no, I've never changed my hairstyle for a man either, but to me there are more important things than hairstyles and if my future husband wanted me to wear my hair differently(which he doesn't), if the style he suggested wasn't a bad style and I looked good in that hairstyle and I felt comfortable with it, I might consider changing it for him. And I am a very independent minded and strong willed person, but I also believe in pleasing the person you love, assuming the request isn't outrageous or against your beliefs.
The good news is my fiancee loves my hair the way it is, in fact he likes the style very much so I don't have to worry about it.
I must confess though I do sometimes wear dresses and earrings that he loves, not because he asks me too but because he has told me he likes those clothes or earrings. I'm not asamed to admit I do like to please him and he sometimes does things to please me. That is part of being in love and loving someone, and it feels good and I enjoy it.
So why not! It's an act of love!

Um that is very ignorant for you to say. You dont have to be latino to get jlo's hairstyle! all you need to do is get a set of rollers and style it in a similar manner!

I would like to thank all of you ladies for your replies.>>>I do appreciate it. Good points made. Thanks.
Lady Maria>>>> A special thanks to you. I made the suggestion to my lady that you suggested. I offered to give her the full beauty treatment as a gift, a day package, at an area salon. It worked!! She is going to have her hair set and styled in J-Lo like curls. I didn't believe she would agree to it but she seemed surprised that I didn't believe she would do it. It's kinda like she told me no she wouldn't curl her hair expecting me to ask her again later. It was really no problem with her. She said sure, she would try it if I wanted her to ,then she gave me a kiss and thanked me for the beauty package. SWEET!!! I did all of that worrying about asking her again for nothing!!!!!!! It was no sweat! SWEET HUH! YOU BETHCA!
Thanks again Lady Maria!!>>>>>>> Great suggestion!!!!!
