I would go to a salon and get a serious conditioning treatment, with steam. I think Aveda has a good one.

aveda has GREAT conditioning treatments, they have several different ones that are better for specific problems. I'd definately seek professional help besides Sallys, in my experience, the women I've seen working there have done AWFUL damage to their own hair.

Sooooo sorry this happened to you girlie!CryCry

I would say that it's time to seek the aid of a professional stylist.. I would trust the girl's in Sally's about as far as I could toss 'em.. It sounds like your are gonna need a moisture treatment.. A professional stylist will be able to evaluate your hair and determine EXACTLY what your hair needs at this point.

well I have an appt tomorrow with a prof stylist...but the lady at sallys really knew what she was talking about..and like wanted to fire the crazy girl who told me to use the wrong permm...she said she has seen it happen to people all the time..but she said it would help alot...its a protein and you mix it witht his conditioner stuff...she said it was stuff they used in salons but would give it to me to try first before iw ent to a salon..cuz she said they would jsut want to cut it all off.. :-( so Im gonna try to use this protein/conditioner stuff tonight when i get home and leave it on for like 2 hours and hopefully it will be somewhat better...geeeeez.... :-( no mroe messing with my hair...lol

if you put too much protein on your hair hun it will go solid and snap off, so be careful.

Posted By: Divavocals
Date Posted: April 18 2007 at 1:33pm
Kateadreena is right.. Protein could dry the hair out even more.. With dual chemical processes and the dryness you describe, it sounds like what your hair needs right now is moisture.. I would see a professional before I did anything else.. I REALLy don't trust the folks at Sally's.. (At least I don;t trust the folks at nonw of my local Sally's..)

my hair really isnt even dry lol..its still wet from last night... :-( its like rubber...like almost a rubberband..it streches but instead of going back to normal...it breaks... :-( hoepfulyl the protein maybe migth dry it some cuz its just sticky and rubberey...i trust the 2 ladies that i talked to today because they have helped me in the past before..it was the young girl who i probably shouldnt have trusted bcuz her hair is short..like almost a mullet..man bad decision..but she gave me the wrong type of perm for my hair...thats why it messed up..but one of the ladies said it happened to her before (im guessing when she was younger..she was alot older..) and she used this stuff...and it worked wonders..and that is what she tells everyone to do..and that no one has come back and complained...so hopefully it will work a lil..im gong to a salon tomorrow to atleast get it cut some...so its not as heavy when its wet since it wont dry...but if not..i mgith be sporten the new britney spears look..a shaved head..so anyone know of any good wig places...gotta brace myself for the worst :-(

oh dear, im so sorry snowwhite!!
back in the 80's and even early 90's me and my group of friends all did the perm/color combos and let stylists snap our hair off :(      first of all, dont ever do both again!

while seeking professional help here is very good advice, i will add that MANY/MOST/almost ALL pros out there will want to cut a good bit of your hair off.
you DONT have to agree to that, you can comprimise to trim SOME and have them recommend and sell you DEEP conditioning and super MOISTURIZING daily treatments

i was a waitress in 1988 and one of my coworkers had fried her hair by getting a 'frosting' and a perm... on her already fine hair, half of her hair snapped off within a few days....she went back to the salon (the same one that did this awful perm/frost combo!) and they wanted to cut it to almost 4" all over (she had waist length hair )but she would NOT let them cut it, it looked horrible, but she used deep conditioner on her hair DAILY for a couple of weeks before she went back to the salon and let them trim....the result was they did not have to cut off as much as they wanted to at first first (she ended up with shoulder blade length hair)

at this point, you can only baby the hair that is there....there is NOOOOOOOoooooooooo product that is going to 'heal' that hair...you need to get regular trims after you decide how much you will let them cut and keep up with really moisturizing your hair

oh whoops i typed so much up there...but important to add:

definately do avoid heat tools on your hair now....and dont think anything of leaving deep conditioner on overnight...good luck with your hair!!

thanks for all your help :-) i am definitely going to leave this deep conditioning over night tonight..and wash it out before ihave to be to work at 5:30am...wooho..then to the salon at 1:00pm..im gonna bring this pic... and tell them no shorter than this..which will be about 6inches short than my hair :-(
I could pull this off right?? hopefully..and then possibly jsut do some protac or even make some clip ins...when i need it for my photo shoots..which i have on sat..and im probably going to cancel...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :-(

I think you can buy the clip-ins that she's wearing in these pictures, on this site.

Now first things first, calm down and take a deep breath. You're going to be ok. Because you have the knowledge and resources and your own experience here at your fingertips. Many of us have had this happen to us (including myself a couple months ago, pretty much to the tee), even girls who if you saw them walking along on the street, you would never have even guessed. I can even name some names of girls on this board who's stories I read about and seen their photos. (Frenchie, Kristin, Jenny, etc..) But guess what, they're ok too,  because while they're chilling after an experience of their own, they found a solution and make it look f'in hot in the meanwhile. So will you.

FYI: that Jessica Simpson haircut is so adorable. I mean, try to imagine that same hairstyle with the same volume, but longer...Might kind of look a little overwhelming. I tend to go with the mentality of playing up either one or the other (either length or volume, too much of both = Dolly Parton). Kind of like the same concept with makeup, either dramatic eyes or dramatic lips, but too much of both can be scary sometimes :-)  I say go with that Jess Simpson cut for a while and go for face-framing volume because that still looks uber-hot. Then if you want to for photoshoots and stuff, go longer with pro-tac, clip-ins, etc... whatever works best for you.

Xo...
Who is "we"

The damage lies most likely in the processing time(ie how long you left the solution on, or not rinsing either the wave or the neutralizer out well enough, porosity level of the hair, choice of perm...I could go on 4ever)

Perming bleached hair is always risky to say the least.

As another member mentioned...stay clear of the proteins.
Deep conditioner will "help" but it's not going to undo the damage. Be VERY gentle while combing your hair when wet(that is when its most fragile and likely to break)

I would advice a healthy cut!

Dont panic, theres always a solution to these things. If worst came to worst u could always have teeny litle pinchbraids put in.

I'm really sorry about your hair! I did the same thing 3 weeks ago, I call it cotton candy hair, sticky and never dries. Trust me, you don't need to cut it all off. It needs to be babied and really well taken care of, probably a little cut for the ends, this will get better!!

CryCryCry Oh no girlie.. So sorry to hear that..CryCryCry

There is another option for you.. If you really have to shave your head, you could wear a lacefront wig. It can give you a VERY natural look while you wait for your hair to grow back..

So sorry about all that! This is terrible Disapprove Divavocal is right, maybe a lace front wig would be a good option for you, there was a little thread with a video about lacefront wig, on this forum, it was very interesting and the results were really nice! You should make a quick search to find it out

That's a brilliant idea. I know Beyonce and Tyra Banks rock them all the time, and they're some of the hottest girls in show biz. I wonder how much average wear you can get from those before a reapp.

Bella makes a good point too, this way if you decide to do lace front, you can still do it over top of the shorter hair, or if you decide you want to pinchbraid it (like Jenny does I think), you have that option available too.

I cut all mine off and pinchbraided itwhen i ruined my waist length hair with bleach...hair grows back so really dont panic.

Lace fronts or pinch braids are your best options and both you can wear any hair you want without blending problems

It depends on the adhesive and the persons own individual body chemistry. Not all adhesives work for all women.. I know some ladies who have reported up to a month's hold from their adhesives..

ShockedShocked Wow girl.. I'm REALLY sorry to hear thatCry.. A lacefront is a good option as far as giving you a very natural look.. and yes you can (with the right adhesive) "shower/swim/workout-sweat". These little gems are really AMAZING.. I helped a friend a few months back with an install and I was in AWE of how natural these wigs look when applied correctly.. Honestly there is more information on lacefront wigs on BHM than this forum.. (BHM has a VERY active lacefront section with LOTS od knowledgeable ladies and pics and everything)

I'll put together a list of threads and links I think might be helpful.. (same stuff I sent to my friend before we did her application) I think Metalgirl has bought some lacefront wigs too, and maybe she might be able to give you some insight too..
