Hey hey all, Erik here. I have been considering hair extensions for a while because I can't be bothered growing it anymore, and id like to cut the ends as it's been a long long time since I've had a trim. so here is my hair:

and here is what id like:

how would i achieve this, and im a beginner so baby talk please. I prefer the idea of like umm, strands of hair, instead of a 'sheet' of hair. I have never had extensions before, but think i would prefer the feel of individual attached hair things, as oppose to a long one piece thing.
Nicole Richie's extensions I think are the sort I would go for. What kind of extensions are they?
and also, my hair is lighter in the ends than at the roots, but id like darker hair, is this easy to do?
LAST but not least, what sort of hair should i use. Russian hair from what I've gathered is the best. John Robinson (Stacy) in lords of dogtown had russian hair and his hair looked amazing.
thank you for all your help xerik

Individual strands can be 'installed' (put in your hair) in several different ways. the main ways are fusion - glue that is heated and rolled into sections of your hair and the extensions tip micro-rings (also called micros or linkies) - which are metal O rings that are clamped down to secure the extensions to your hair, they come in a variety of colors, they can also be lined with silicone which for some protects against hair damage, but they cannot clamp down as flat shrinks- another type of O ring, which instead of metal is plastic (im assuming) which is shrunk down using heat, some are lined with a glue to keep them more secure.
doing color variations is very easy
russian hair is some of the best, however it is incredibly expensive.

Ok, first off, what you're looking for a individual bonds (as opposed to weft). Now there's pros and cons for both. Personally, I'm a weft sort of girl because I'm rough on my hair and I'd rather mess with a few rows of weft rather than 200+ bonds every time I wash my hair.
You're hair is already pretty close to this length, so you don't need much. My opinion? Go with weft, it lies very smooth and gives good coverage. About 2-3 total wefts stacked in 1 or 2 rows at the base of the skull. You'll want silky straight texture that's at least 9" long and then have a stylist who knows how to work with extensions razor everything into the style you want. I'd say go with Elite Thermo synthetic hair since your first install is pretty much guaranteed to be ruined by something you do wrong and you don't want hundreds of dollars wasted on an ignorant mistake on your part.
And please don't take this a shooting down your Russian hair dreams, I have those dreams, too. But my 1st install was individuals and human hair. I screwed up that hair faster than a cat out of water. I didn't even know how to wash it correctly! I had a rat's nest in a week and a half!
Trust me: elite thermo + protac = love.

Very very hot! lol I think that you need to get the front of your hair layered and then fit two single clip in wefts in the back. It saves the hastle of glue and I have seen this done myself! You can get two clip in wefts and heavily layer them..then clip them in at the nape...no one will know! At the moment your hair isn't layered enough for this look so make sure u get it layers (try Toni and Guy for layers!)

Erik,
It looks like you have fine, straight, healthy hair like mine. If you want the best, and the most perfect match for your hair, don't settle for anything but Russian hair. Some companies boast that treated Indian or Chinese hair can match hair like ours, but I don't think it can. Russian hair is soft and shiny and moves exactly like your own hair.
I think you would look great in extensions. I love it when guys have long hair! My fantasy guy hair can be found in the Lord of the Rings films. I just found out that the extension hair in these films is Russian. No wonder it looked so amazing!

No way! I didn't realize they were waring Russian hair! I love mine too.
You're right Kristie, it moves with my own hair. I sometimes can't tell which
is mine and which is the Russian!!!
