Hello there! Sounds like your hair texture has changed to more curly or possibly kinky. Sedu Straightener iron works on all hair types. See my hairboutique gallery for client pics.

Your hair is damaged. That causes the cuttlicle to open up an allow more humidity in. You need to start doing protein treatments and deep conditioning. The Sedu Flat iron is a great iron, I own it myself. But you also need to attact the problem from the inside out.

...heh... I was going to bleach and dye my hair, but this has given me reservations now... is this a common problem? I have very, very thick hair that's fairly difficult to straighten anyway... And I'm afraid I know nothing about protein treatments or deep conditioning heh.

Maybe a dumb question but I own about the cheapest conair straightener there is... (but I can still get the job done fairly well in about an hour with my shoulderlength hair...) will the sedu be able to improve immensely on that?

Sorry. I'm a n00b. Totally just got hair like, yesterday :D

thanks.

And it won't show any improvement unless you do some serious damage control.

Good protein treatments are Nexxus Emergencee, Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructor, Redken Deep Fuel and Sebastian 2+1 (this one being the most expensive). I would try the Emergencee.

Do 1 treatment once a week for the first 4 weeks, and once a month after that. Apply the product, cover hair with a shower cap, and go under a head dryer, or heat cap (or apply heat with your blow dryer if you don't have one) for 15-20 minutes. After that rinse and shampoo the product out, and apply a good quality conditioner. I personaly use Redken All soft heavy cream or Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat, but you can use whatever works best for you. Again, Cover your hair with a shower cap, and go under the dryer for another 15 minutes. Now, just so you know, protein treatments are not designed to soften hair, as they are not conditioners. Your hair will feel like straw after the protein treatment. That is normal. You need to deep condition after the protein treatment as I explained above. Always deep condition at least once a week.

Once hair has been damaged, you can't really fix it, but you can buffer the damage and get your hair to look healthy, and keep it from breaking off, freezing up etc, by doing the above. Healthy hair will grow and you will gradualy get rid of the damaged hair as you go for hair cuts.

How long it will take for you to see results, depends on the level of damage. Some people see it right away, others take up to a month. But if you don't see it right away, you should deft. start to see the difference after the first 3-4 treatments. Be patient, it will happen. You have to be persistent. It will happen and your hair will look much, much, better.

Remember to use a leave in conditioner if you blow dry and a heat protectant if you flat iron. I use Redken Heat Glide and just love it. You do have to be careful because the stuff is very concentrated. Usually two pumps is all you need. Make sure to rub hands together well, and distribute evenly, always starting at the bottom.

Good leave ins are Sebastian Potion 9 and Salerm 21.

Well, I hope that helps. Good luck and great hair!!

I would not recomend bleaching to anyone. Even when done by the best, you run the risk of seriously damaged hair. And yes it is a common problem. To me, it is just not worth it.

Now about that flat iron... GET RID OF IT!!! the worst thing you can do to your hair is use a cheap flat iron. You are slowly frying it, and trust me the results can not compare to those of a good quality iron. If it takes you an hour to do your hair with the Conair, it should only take you about 20 minutes with the Sedu. You hair will look like silk and it won't freez up as soon as you walk out the door. Believe me, is like going from a Hundai to a Ferrari. Cheap irons cause the same damage bleaching does, but at a slower rate. They totally destroy your hair cuticle.

So purchase a good iron, and follow the protein/deep conditioning routine described above, and you won't belive the difference. Check out Folica.com for review and before and after pictures with the Sedu flat iron. Believe me, they are worth every penny.

Good luck and great hair.
