Hi - I`m considering a new style and wanted to solicit some opinions before I do anything. My hair is currently a couple of inches past shoulder length and I am entertaining the thoughts of getting it cut into an asymmetrical bob (with one side cut over the ear and the other side chin length). Part of me would like to cut my hair short all over (I`m 25 and have never had short hair), but I don`t quite have the nerve for that and thought that this cut would be a good compromise (it would also let me see, partially at least, how I would like short hair). However, I can`t really find this style in any magazines or online anywhere. Should I take this to mean that it is very much out of style? If so, I don`t want to do it. I would be very interested in hearing any thoughts and/or ideas. Thanks!

I saw this and had to reply...
In 1989 I knew a girl with this hairstyle - I hated it then, I hate it now.
Please don`t do it. -Tia

I have to agree with Fizzgig. I also had a friend who had that hairstyle in the `80s. She ended up cutting the long side to match the short side then grew it all back out. You can get the same look with by getting an inverted bob (longer in front than in back) and tucking the hair behind one ear. Try that first, then if you want to go shorter keep getting it cut. Make sure you trust your hairdresser though. I have had many disasters since cutting my hair short. Once it is short, it is very difficult to grow it back out, mostly because living through all the ugly growing out stages is so unbearable that you will most likely keep going to the salon to have it cut. Good luck.

Hey! I like that look!! I can`t do it myself because I am in the Army and it is too "faddish" for the regulation, but anyways...I saw two models with that haircut in last month`s Mademoiselle magazine. It was styled closer to the head rather than the stacked-out full version of the 80`s. I say, if you like it, go for it!! :)
I currently have the inverted bob with one side behind the ear since I can get away with that in uniform. It is a good idea if you don`t want to go all the way with the asymetrical thing :)

hey, I think that short bobs look great. The asymmetrical style is very trendy. I just gave a female friend that style the other day and she loved it. If you would like to discuss some of the details of the cut, email me and we can talk about it.

Reply to message: viewthread.asp?forum=AMB%5FAP804060353&id=2821&page=1#21.2827.1 - 21.2827.1 they always look interesting in agazines and hair books, and i admit i`ve had the short-in-back, long-in-front one myself (That, I liked...) But I have a feeling an asymetrical-side bob would drive you NUTS in the long run... and then you`d chop it off and have to wait a long time for your hair to grow out... MY suggestion (my humble opinion, rather :)) is that you do what KDS suggests, get an inverted bob and tuck that one side behond your ear... that way you`re covered if you ever get tired of having the asymetrical look. Plus, it`s more versatile :) My hair`s only 3 inches long now and I`m past the spikey stage but cant do ANYTHING with it until it`s a little longer and it`s maddening as anything! Don`t be me :) So GO WITH VERSATILITY! GET THE INVERTED BOB AND TUCK! :)

Don`t do the assymetrical thing -- it looks ok in magazines but not so good in real life! luv, Sadie

Thanks for all of your input! I`ve enjoyed reading the replies. It seems as if there really isn`t a consensus yet, one way or the other. I was interested in the inverted bob option. Can someone tell me what that would look like? Is there a picture of an example in the style section? I have to say, though, that part of me is ready to just go for the asymmetrical bob. I`m really nervous about doing it, but kind of excited at the same time, if that makes any sense. I guess I`m just really ready for a major change - I`ve got the same boring style I`ve had for years and I`m quite tired of it!

I am with all of those that are for the inverted bob. It is my persoanl opinion that the asymetrical style aren`t that appealing and would probably be less versatile and more of a headache. I had and inverted bob hairstyle and loved it. You have a variety of ways to style it because it is long enough to do different things with and if you want that asymetric look just tuck one side behind your ear. When I had the inverted bob I had the nape cut really short but not shaved. That adds some softness to the style. I would be glad to assist you if you need further advice or support.

If you go to this page and find style #471--that is what mine looks like only without the bangs. :) There are tons of great styles on this site though if you like any kind of bobbed shape. Have a happy hair day!! :)

Lovely style kds. There is actaully a picture from the back of my hair. it isn`t the best quality but it is number121. I had my hair cut like yours with bangs a few months ago and then decided to go back to the one length thing.
