You gona have to grow your hair out first, and then thats gona suck because you gona look like you growin your hair out for braids which is played out. Depends on how old you are too, 18 and up... u too old for that sh*t ------------- |

There is a such thing as being too old for dreads in the professional world. If you first start to grow your dreads those little ones are seen as unruly or rebellious and when they grow longer and can be tied together they are seen as more professional. But starting out with dreads around the age of 18+ looking for a job isnt a good look. ------------- |

Getting a job all depends on how aggressive you are. I see guy with all types of hair styles getting jobs in Chicago. One thing you gotta realize is it's how you present yourself getting a job. Also, they're not dreads, they're called locks. If you have some mini locks going and you're well groomed, dressed professionally, and you have the requirements, you'll get the job. Black people are so stuck on how their hair looks when go out for a job. Then when they go out to get one they speak in fragment sentences and Ebonics. -------------

Hair does matter, i worked for Abercombie and Fitch on 5th ave in manhattan and they told me straight up who gets the job and who doesnt. No matter how well they present themselves or how groomed their hair is Dreads, braids, anything that isnt the societial norm which is short and neat. Its not fair but its life. ------------- |

When I first applied to abercrombie I didnt get hired. And I applied later after I cut my braids and was hired. The manager is black he told me straight up it was because of the braids. Dont get mad at me im just giving yall a lil insight on what i know. ------------- |

About the hair thing I see the point of view that Dutch is saying. I'm only going by my experience and working in a clothing store is not on my list of possible jobs. So I don't know what it's like on the other side. But it's all good though we all must do what we have to do do to keep the money flowing into our pockets. -------------
