black to pink?

I need some advice. I have been dying my hair black with permanent dye for about a year now. My natural color is a medium dark brown and I have been told that if I try to strip the color and dye it any lighter that it will turn pink!! I really would like to change my color but I don`t know if this is true. If anyone has any suggestions on a process for this, please help!!!

speaking from experience, getting black out is one of THE hardest things to do... I wound up bleaching 3 times, cutting almost all my hair off and what was left felt like STRAW...
having said that, I`ve been dying my hair forever and everytime (other than last christmas` black hair fiasco) i wanted to get rid of color, I used a color STRIPPER which tended ot be a little easier on my hair... it may turn osme weird color when you strip the black out, but then you just go over it and dye it as close to your normal color as you can get it...
my advice: go to a professional (that way it`s more likely to turn out the way you want it, and if it doesnt you have someone else to blame! :) okay that was mean)
SHort version: yes you`re hair will turn weird colors (i wound up looking like a tiger. rowr.) after you strip. BUt if you go dark brown enough, you shouldnt turn PINK forever...
