Since you didn't start brushing while your hair was short, you need to use a medium or hard brush to make sure that you're training your undergrowth.  If your undergrowth is not being trained, you'll have surface waves.  Surface waves are the ones that dissappear after you get a haircut or wash your hair.  A well trained ingrain is the foundation of a good 360 wave pattern.

Ladywaves follow the advice of these guys. The scattered rows of waves are better then no waves. This means that your pattern is starting to develop. Because you are coming from a base of no waves they will take time to come in. Take me for example, 6 months ago my right side waves were connecting all crazy. But now they are starting to all line up together. After every wolfing' session, my right gets better and better. So don't worry. Eventually those waves will be spinning like crazy.

Just wolf for 8 weeks or more, then cut. Then repeat and you should be fine.

Definitely don't hurt yourself brushing with a hard brush. Unless you're trying to get some red dye in your hair. LOL

If your medium has gotten softer, go buy a new one to regain that firmness that your brush originally had.
