You know, it amazes me how uptight this all gets me. I go back and forth, back and forth. I am posting two pics here, one with gray and one dyed and then we can discuss:
  Natural Dyed
Ok, so I go back and forth. Should I let the gray stay and look 10 years older, or color and look younger (but risk it looking fake + constant maintenance)?
It is actually more gray now on top than it was in that picture.
I have noticed that women seem to be much more attracted to me when it is dark. They say I look "distinguished" with it gray, (which I think is just a nice way of saying "you look like my father").
As a happy medium, I am considering letting it go natural, but then putting lowlights in the top so I can go darker on top, silver on the sides (like George Clooney) without it looking "dyed".
Please, I need some help as this is bugging me far more than it should.

Yes, I hear that, but when my hair is gray, women treat me like I'm an old man.
As I said before, there is about a 500% difference in how "popular" I am when my hair is dark as opposed to gray. It's funny because my experience is pretty much exactly like what you see in the "Just-for-Men" ads on TV.

Well, not much response, which is surprising considering how many views my question got.
Oh well, I think I've decided to just grow it out natural and maybe, in the future, add some lowlights on top. My reasons for this decision:
1. All over haircolor on men just looks fake, especially when the man's face says "this guys should have at least a few grays..."
2. Coloring one's hair as often as I would have to with my hair short would NOT be healthy as I've read that haircoloring even once a month significantly adds to one's chances of developing lymphoma.
3. It's just a giant hassle.
4. It's too vain.

Since you are torn, I would do both. Have you heard of blending the grey to make it look a little less grey? That's what I would do, then you don't have to worry about your hair being all one dark color. Good luck.

Yes, that's what I meant by doing the "lowlights" or "darklights".
I am pretty sure this is what George Clooney does as I have seen him with his hair quite gray all over, but in his recent movie, it is much darker on top than it was and it looks attractive like that.
That probably is the direction I will go.

Are you having it done or doing it yourself? I think if someone else is doing it for you, it should be a no brainer, just tell them what you want.  Personally, I like the natural grey...grey doesn't really mean you are "old".

I will have it done professionally. I figure since I don't have to worry so much about "roots" if it is just blended, once a month should do the trick. Money isn't an issue so I can afford it.
However, I'm not sure how they can continue to "blend" it without it eventually all going dark? I mean, it would be difficult to just re-dye the same exact hairs over and over, wouldn't it?

No, actually that can be done. What the colorist should use is a demi permanent dye, which fades in about 30 days. Actually, all color fades eventually. I'd think every six weeks should be sufficent. Monthly might be too often. Try to find a good colorist who can give you what you want. Good luck with that! I've had to finally do my own, because I could not find someone who listened to what I wanted and did what they wanted, lol! Oh well, that's life, eh? Post pics after you get it done!

Keep your hair gray with highlights. It's much easier to maintain than trying to color it all the time.It looks better gray. |

I guess my biggest problem is that when I see other men with as much gray as me they look so darned old, and I think, wow, do I look that old?
I know I am getting older but I guess I just don't want to accept it.
