I'd planned on doing the "big chop" in January 2008 as a new years thing.  But I don't know what possessed me 2 pick those scissors on Wednesday.  I do recall feeling very anxious in the past few months to get rid of that stringy relaxed hair on the ends and I couldn't wait until January.  I just never expected to cut my hair so soon.  Anyways, despite my spontaneousness, it turned out great!

 

 

I just want to say to all the "transitioners" out there, hold on and and keep the faith, you will reach your goal.  Also, don't be afraid of the "big chop."  It's a great thing.  Some feel anxiety after they do it because they've always been used to long hair.  You might even feel like a whole new person!  I for one, have always had long silky/soft hair. 

 

 

I thought I'd miss it....but because I really wanted this, I'm ecstatic now that I've let the old me fall to the floor.

 

Keep it up ladies.  And DON'T give in to all perm.  Family and friends might be saying "gurl you need tame that nappy mess!"  or "stop this foolishness and get a perm!"  But you stay true to yourself.  I'm glad I did.

But now that I'm natural, I'm keeping better care of my hair.  I rinse it with conditioner in the shower daily and when I get out, the curls are defined and springy because they're still wet.  Then I put a little Jojoba oil on each curl throughout my head so they're retain the shape.  To minimize shrinkage I blowdry my hair on high heat and low fan setting.  The curls dry and remain shiny and bouncy throughout the day.  The only thing to watch out for is the oil.  Jojoba oil is very intense and doesn't absorb very well.  Don't let the curls make your face oily because it causes a shiny complexion and if you have break-out prone skin...it could get nasty.
