Ok so my hairdresser messed up and i ended up with orange hair. I fixed my own hair and at the moment its a golden blonde with subtle highlights which i use a toner to keep it in check. However i have evident roots. I have not coloured since febuary to enable my hair to get back into condition.

I cannot afford nor do i want to go to a professional and my roots are a muddy dark blonde!!

I have quite a good knowledge of using professional products and understand that my roots will process quicker.. i want eventually keep my natural colour when its grown out with a lot of highlights instead of all over colouring it so i get rid of the slight golden/brassy tinge the rest of my hair has now..

Is it best to do all over foils to blend the highlights into the coloured area then onto the roots to cover them up?? Do i colour the ends first and for how long for before i apply to the roots? What products would be best to use and what bleach/peroxide? I want to be a slightly brighter blonde than i am now!! I will use foils with really subtle highlights to blend away the roots. Bleach or a high lift colour??? How long would i leave the bleach on for??

Here is a picture anyway of my brassy darkish blonde.. my hair is in better condition than my fringe for some odd reason but its a lot better than when the hairdresser frazzled my hair!!! Sorry for blanking my face out but i feel more comfortable this way!

Its hard to see since you have a shadow over your roots in the photo, but it dosen't look like you have roots as badly as you think, IMO anyway. You also have naturally blonde hair, even if its a darker blonde, so that helps it blend a lot.
I definately understand not wanting to go back to the salon!
I can't give you specific product advice since I don't go blonde but I'll do what I can for basic information.

I'd do moderate foils, I don't think you need to do a full head of them, and it would also be damaging to your hair if you did. If you want your hair to be an even color rather than highlighted, just do your whole head, no need for foils at all in that case.
You color your roots FIRST then the length of your hair. Colored hair is porous, which means it fills with color more quickly than your roots that are vigin hair. Apply color/bleach to your roots first, carefully monitoring it and spot checking for color, then comb it through the rest of your hair (or foils). Bleaching (from what I have heard) is less damaging than high lift color. The length of time you leave the bleach on depends on the level of developer you use and how light you want to go.

To elimnate brassy tones you should use a toner rather than over bleaching. Over bleaching will leave you with white and very damaged hair. A toner will help elimnate the brassy tones that bother you without doig a lot more damage to your hair. If you mostly want to get rid of brassy tones I would reccemend doing that FIRST then seeing if you need to re-do highlights or color.

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong! I'm not a blonde after all - just dye my hair a lot :laughs:

Thankyou very much!! Much appreciated!! :D I will enquire at my local sallys and obtain a toner and possibly some bleach just for a couple of foils to conceal the roots. Yes problem is my roots are ash and my lengths are somewhat gold so roots are quite evident in daylight!!
