Hi,
I posted below about getting an all over permanent hair color done in the salon vs at home, and it seems the majority recommended getting it done in a salon. So I (nervously) made an appointment in my regular salon in two weeks. My hair color is dark brown, and I have been doing semi-permanant colors for years to cover some grey, and the last time was about 2 weeks ago (Loreal Casting in medium brown). I have been washing my hair daily since then, but I can still tell there is still a lot of semi-permanent left because 1) I have grey roots coming in, plus 2) the color is slightly darker (or maybe just slightly "different") than my natural color. I still really don`t see any noticeable roots (except for the grey) but I am sure that years of getting semi-permanent colors have built up in my hair.
Now I think I want to go with permanent color, mainly because of the amount of grey I have noticed lately, which is getting more difficult to hide with semi-permanent color without getting too dark. The result I am looking for from a permanent hair color is to stay fairly close to my natural medium to dark brown hair color to minimize roots, but I think I want a (very) slightly more "highlighted" look, instead of the dark brown I now have - maybe adding a little more gold or red tone. Can my hairdresser use a permanent color on me if there is still any semi-permanent left? If so, will it achieve the look I want? I sure would have to have to grow my semi-permanent all the way out because my hair is below shoulder length, plus I don`t think I could stand to see all that grey growing back in.
Thanks!
Shelley
