Hi Dave,
Glad to hear that you have become the moderator for this long hair support message board. I'm a guy with hair 3/4 down my back and I love having long hair. My goal is to let it grow way past my buns!!.
Would you know Dave if messaging every day my scalp, would it stimulate hair growth? Is it better to let my hair down and loose as much as possible instead of having it tied down in a ponytail?
Thanks for your advices
Gilles

Hello Gilles,

Welcome to the Long Hair Support board of HairBoutique.com.

I have heard that massaging one's scalp aids the circulation of the blood vessels in the scalp, which should provide for a better flow of nutrients to the hair follicles. However, I have no empirical evidence of a cause-and-effect relationship between scalp massages and hair growth rate. That said, I don't believe it can hurt.

HTH. And let us know if it works for you.

Hi Gillies

I'd like to add to Dave's comments, if I may.

I can testify that gentle head massage is relaxing and stimulates blood flow to the scalp. I have it done every so often, and my whole head is red, hot and tingling.
However, It's hard to know/prove if it will stimulate hair to grow more than your normal genetically-determined rate.

On the question of wearing hair loose vs tied in a pony-tail, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "better". There are benefits and disadvantages in either case.

The scalp is less strained when the hair is worn down, loose.

The hair is better protected from wind and cold when worn in a tail - better still in a pony-braid.

If you live in a temperate/warm climate, I say go for wearing it loose so that there are no areas of constriction on your hair or scalp.
Just my opinion.

Personally, I tie it back for work and let it down at all other times (unless the cold/wind is bitter).

Best wishes with growing it longer, Gillies.
